Jerry Falwell would never approve. I'm going to have to tell him.Originally posted by Rustedpail

Good deal. Wish I'd kept my Rhodes. (sniff) I just resurrected one for a young kid that hauled it out of a neighbors's garage. (30 years of dirt in there!)
Bet that was a project and a half.
Shoot, mine fell off the conveyor belt comin' out of a 737 and worked just fine. It had a very good case, I guess.

hey, the Rhodes sounds like a great idea, I love those things!!
"evil men make you kill me,
evil men make me kill you;
even though we’re only families apart..."
Bet that was a project and a half.
It was and I could have spent another 20 hours on it. The biggest problem is that the tine had rusted and that makes them vibrate badly rather than nicely.
Also the wood of the harp assembly had shrunk from age making all the pickups loose and out of wack. And the hammer tips were falling off, yadda yadda yadda.
But I don't doubt that one could take a 5 foot fall, brush itself off and work fine.
Short story...
I once saw Flora Purim (fresh out of jail) at Berklee College of Music recital hall with her brazilian band. The equipment was late arriving and when it did it was hastily put up on stage.
Hermeto Pascoal sat down at the Rhodes (Suitcase) piano and when he pushed down on the sustain pedal the upper part jumped up in the air. He did it a couple more times, stood up (all 4 feet of him) and heaved the 200 pound piano over on its back making the whole place thunderously reverberate. Then he stomped off the stage, and roadies ran out and set the piano back up ... properly. Then they played. Piano worked fine.
Butthat was a long time ago, wasn't it?

Actually, the '59 had the famous fins and bullets.
But what's a year or two among friends?
:)
Ah...perhaps it was a '59, and I thought they were torpedos.
Thanks, doc, I needed that.:tw59

Here's the gorgeous '60.
Fins were slightly clipped and the tail lights were strips of plastic along the fin edges.

Oh triple *smooches!* Yes!
Mine was a deep blue. Courtesy of my Great Uncle Don Barton who drove it for years back and forth to the pool-hall where he and his buds sat around flicking roll-yer-own ashes into the cuffs of their Levi's and told tall tales about cowboying and roughnecking and breaking horses. Bless their hearts. Taught me how to play pool real well. He smuggled hootch during prohibition and was a crack shot. Course most were in those days. Having a vision of me in my frilly pink dress learning masse and english. :)

For great shots of "smoke" [in this case, cigarette], track down a Japanese film from a couple of years ago called "In The Mood For Love."
The color and the way scenes are lit make smoking look really... delicious. Bittersweet story. Nice soundtrack too.
