Anyone Here Doing the Blues in NYC? Long Island Doesn't Count!!!!

Just looking to get in touch with anyone doing blues in The City.

Moved to shitsville, USA (Florida) and miss the scene back home.

Ever since Manny's Carwash closed down the blues scene seems to have left NYC and I am curious to know how my fellow bluesmen are holding up!!

Have a SAFE and Enjoyable Christmas and New Year's! (unless, of course, you are responding from Williamsburg -- then Christmas and New Year's doesn't mean much.)

    What's wrong with Long Island?
I have worked/played at the Riverhead Blues Festival the last 4 years and have had a blast. We made $800 in a small bar in Baldwin last night (it was outta control!)
We are doing well on L.I., but are looking West to NYC and Hoboken. We are booked at Hogs and Heifers Uptown in April, have a contact at Tin Lizzies, and are hoping for Lucille's at B.B.'s.
I was in the Village in August, and things looked good....everywhere you went was a good Blues band.
Even if biz is "soft", you know it'll come back.
It's the greatest City in the Word!
Strats and Mustangs and Coronados...OH MY!

Most of the blues scene has disappeared from NYC. Long Island is comparatively enthusiastic about blues in general. It's easier to get gigs playing country in NYC at the moment than blues!

    You're shittin' me, right?

NYC means Sophisticated-Rock, Jazz, Bohemian, Complicated, Ethnically rich sounds, and gay show-tunes, to us out in the hinterlands. (another fairytale bites the dust)

Chrimminently, Floyd, it's turning into Germany.

    NYC

    What's wrong with Long Island?

I am a born and bred city guy. I have lots of family on the Island but there is nothing there that appeals to me at all, don't take offense, just a personal preference and opinion.

I have played many gigs out in Babylon -- played the Black Cat Lounge at Jillian's quite a few times, as well.

Right now I live in Central Florida in a private community and it reminds me too much of LI.

But my wife and I decided that we miss the city too much and are moving back in 2 years.

If you go to the Rock and Roll Cafe on Bleeker -- Don't know if its still there, they have some good bands. They used to have a jam at Groovin.

One band that I always loved was the house band at Cafe Wha?

Funny you should mention that. My old band, Nova Express, used to be one of the house bands at the Cafe Wha? Of course, that was a couple of years ago back in the summer of 1967. ;)
