Will a chorus pedal increase sustain?

I recently bought a used Boss CE-2 & I swear it increases sustain, especially when I use my amp's distorion circuit. Is this for real, or is it all in my head?

I've never noticed any chorus pedal increasing sustain. Could be happenin' with your rig though.

Yes, in a round about sort of way. Couple that with a really fast digital or analog delay and you go even further.

Technically no, but since its sort of "regeneration" of your signal, once it leaves your guitar then yes...

    Am I making any sense?

Yes. I don't really 'feel' any increase in the sustain when using my amp's clear channel, but when I use the distorion channel something is going on. The extra sustain I get from the distortion seems to 'ring out' a little longer. If ya' know what I mean.

You can even push your strat further by installing a Fat-O-Caster switch and put the neck and middle in series.. It goes on forever. Well, it just seems that way...

    It could.

Analog delay devices, like an analog chorus, often include "companding." That is, compressing the signal before it goes into the "bucket brigade" device that delays the signal. This increases the overall signal level in the noisy chip. On the other end, an expander "undoes" the compression, dropping the noise level down. A similar system is used for Dolby, DBX and analog wireless systems. In theory, the sound should be unchanged at the end.

However, if the expansion doesn't exactly match the compression, funky shit happens. That's one of the reasons why cheap wireless really screws with your sound.
