    Need some song suggestions

I'm tired of the same old tunes. Don't want to do mine.

Suggest some great recognizable tunes you'd love to hear a woman sing. I prefer those that another woman hasn't done, so's I don't try to emulate them.

    I like to explore. Thanks.

    OK, you're in California, right?

This should be poignant right now....

For something off the beaten path: "Rocks in My Bed." It's a Duke Ellington song, a blues. Charles Brown does it too. I promise I'll sing it for you at the next jam.

Other bluesish tunes you don't hear enough of:

    Down Home Blues
    Blues in the Night
Black Coffee (although lots of women already sing it)

    Have you tried;

    After The Gold Rush
    or
    Needle and The Damage Done
    or
I Put A Spell On You
    or
Long As I Can See The Light

The first and last ones are personal favorites, but I don't perform them....yet.

    Annie,
Are you playing solo, or with a small group?

"Helplessly Hoping" by CSN&Y can be really cool if yall can do some harmonies.

You what's really hot is "Bad Thing" by Sarah Brown.
The band I work with once in a while does it. Female lead. Really HOT tune.

Here is a clip of the band "So Far" doing this tune. I think you could pull it off well and probably get a standing ovation.

No matter what Annie pulls off, she'll get a standing ovation.

She'll get an ovation when she sings, too.

    Early work schedule?
I'm on the 7-4 thing. If traffic stats to creep up on me, I'll have to move to 6:30 to 3:30....

Boy, was it bad yesterday at 4.... Took me an hour to drive my 20-minute commute home...

Early circadian rhythm is more like it; I've always gotten up real early regardless of work or weekend schedules.

Back to Annie's point (so as not to hijack the thread) - Annie, it's not exactly a unique or "never-played" tune, but I think you'd do a killer version of "The Sky Is Crying". "Five Long Years" would be another good choice.

    mwahahhahahha!

Sven: I'm not playing out today. Remember I quit. Until the next time. (I quit pretty regular-like.)

That's not the point. The experience of taking a tune and turning it into yours is a fine time, and who knows when or if you'll take it out to share. It's like opening a treasure chest. Or painting a picture. Or remodelling your house. It's the action that leads to satisfaction.

Annie, it took me a while to remember the name of the song, but "I Can't Tell You why" by The Eagles.

I think that song would be great for your voice.

Hmmm. I've done lotsa these. "Little By Little" before Tedeschi, even, though somehow, very similar.

I'll explore these suggestions...though I'd like a sort of "Coming Out of The Dark" powerful tune or two.

Keep digging Watson. I haven't done Eagles tunes for a long time, it's very cool that it made me drag out some old tapes.

I love this delving. Thanks, amigos!

There's a tune called "Blue Heartache" by Gayle Davies that has certain potential. I need a turntable. Maybe I could get one of these Seatrain songs to sally-forth!

    Who did those Pete?

    Delbert?
    Bonnie n Delbert? Hum?

"Blues in The Night" is a great tune, one must have a dynamite drummer to handle it. Kinda like "Fever", "Sixteen Tons" and "My Baby".

Some crooning tunes done by guys:

"Since I Met You Baby" - Ivory Joe Hunter
"Someone To Love" - Percy Mayfield
"Those Lonely, Lonely Nights" - Johnny Guitar Watson

I'm not sure if "Deep Blue Sea" by Hank Ballard would sound any good without the background vocals, but it's a good one for belting.

You want a few different ideas. Here you go.

Where Was I (When You Stopped Loving Me) - Paul Thorn
    - This is one of the greatest songs of our generation, and I am not kidding.

I Have a Good Day - Paul Thorn

Banana Puddin' - Southern Culture on the Skids

    Midnight Confessions

Nobody Answers, When I Call Your Name - I like the Vince Gill version.

I Can't Help Falling in Love with You - I bet you've never performed it, at least not recently.

Bad Days - The Flaming Lips

    Hey Baby! - Ted Nugent

It's Money That I Love - Randy Newman

I Can't Stand Up (for falling down) - Elvis Costello

    Crazy Arms - The Killer

    Wild One - The Killer

Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Ahhhhh, it's always good.

When You Dance (I can really love) - Neil Young

    Speakin' Out - Neil Young

Hold Back the Tears - Neil Young

    B.I.G.T.I.M.E. - Keith Sykes

Memory in the Making - John Kilzer

Cry Me River - I know it's a standard, but maybe it's one you haven't worn out. I'd sure like to hear you do it.

Let's learn all these and tour. :)

Are you familiar with Son Volt's "Trace" album? It's packed full of gems that I think you'd like. My top picks would be "Windfall" and "Tear Stained Eye".
