That's the only picture I've ever seen where Stevie had a beard. Got any more? Thanks :)
The man with magic hands.
Looks like '85 or so. He had a beard on his SNL appearance when "Soul to Soul" was out.
TBD
That was probably '84-'85? He wasn't bathing all that frequently during that time either, from what I've read.
Looks like Joe Cocker :LC

AH! Speaking of... the last time I was Stevie was at the Gorge in George, WA. He opened for Joe. He burned the place DOWN! Joe was good, but not the reason I went.... so me & my buddy left early. As we crested the hill outside the gate & entered the parking lot, the sound of Stevie's guitar rose out of the gorge like a tidal wave; he was sitting in with Joe. I couldn't get back in. Bummer
is that really SRV?
I thought it was a gag by karaoke karl......!
sure doesn't look like SRV to me. more like that guy on "swiss family robinson" :)
I've seen that pic before; I forget where, but I'm pretty sure that it's NOT SRV.
Unless someone else wears those shirsts, that strap, and that guitar together then it deffinately IS Stevie. :)
The man with magic hands.
Well ... what year did he switch the SRV over to the pickguard ?
I'd like to fly, but my wings have been so denied
I say it's kris kristofferson on halloween.
That is most DEFINITELY SRV or maybe a really good replica
An unusual pic, for sure. I think I liked the Jimi one better, though.
This is Lennys original neck ('64 I believe):
The beard:
"Insurance is like marriage, you pay and pay but you never get anything back" - Al bundy.
Same hat, same scraggly beard; definitely a "before" picture.
Givin' Jerry run for his money!! :lol2

Kind of looks like Kiefer Sutherland in the pic below.
I'm trying to locate the origine of that photo, because I know I've seen it before, and it's not SRV. Whoever it is, he's no doubt, a big Stevie fan, but not Stevie.
Sorry Wisertime,
I respectfully say...you are incorrect. ;) This is ABSOLUTELY Stevie. I have spent 1000s of hours collecting and studying SRV's life. In that time I have amassed over 2000 pictures of SRV and chronologically organized them. I have other pix from that year that show this as one of the consistent costume changes he had (kimono; cross; hat; red ribbon on the hat; red jewlel on the hat ; feather; left hand ring; white strap=all consistent for that year) . This was during the '85 tour. I believe this shot might have come from a Japan tour . In addition , as you all know, the guitar went through a lot of transformation through the years due to how hard SRV played it. i.e. you can see trasitions of where stickers started whole and eventually ended up disappearing (referring to the SRV on the horn and the pick guard). The "look" of that guitar/stickers changed every few months. The deterioration of the below pic is consistent with the rest of the pix from that same time of era and would be hard to duplicate. I will post my pictures in a little while.

There's the peacock, too. A little washed by the lighting but it's there...

The Bear Guy
One of the the effects of excessive long term drugs for some people is not caring about hygene or the way you look. So going a week without bathing might have been OK to Stevie. His friends (in the late 70s) use to call hi "Stinky" Vaughan. He wasn't bathing all that frequently during that time either,
HERE is the picture album of his bearded era.
If you look closely......you can see Stevies "Mojo Belt" this was usually hidden under other belts & in this case his kimono(very rarely seen). This appears to be from the same period that Stevie recorded with Albert King "In Session" in Canada. It's Stevie.........
Karl - I stand corrected.
I recently sent a copy of the picture to Craig Hopkins (pres. of the SRV fanclub). He wrote back saying:
Stevie 1985.
'Nuff said.
That pic (or one from the same shoot) was on the cover of Guitar World.
Actually SRV did Sat. Night live that year hosted by Mick jaggar and his model wife. SRV was almost at his lowest point (couldn't tell by the playing though). He broke down in europe later that year and went cold Turkey and amazed people by his will power to stay striaght and never again fall off the wagon. The man wasn't just one of the most gifted muscians of all time, he had a great will to succeed and fly striaght. He turned alot of people striaght before he passed to. What a gaddamn shame he's still not with us.
Ronnie Earl says that Stevie had a lot to do with him finally being able to go straight.
In reading both his biographies and other editorial I saw how SRV impacted a LOT of people in his last 4 sober years. Giving them both hope and joy.
A true loss!
I agree.
I like this shot here:
whoops. guess picturetrail doesn't let you link...anyway, it's the one with the big pipe dangling out of his mouth :)

I HATE PICTURE TRAIL
You have to get TFF added to their list of approved websites. That sucks.
SRV and Tommy Shannon were into pipes '84 and '85. I think SRV did it because Albert King did. ;)
