You Know You're REALLY OLD When

You turn up your volume to use a clip-on tuner.

Hey, old habits are hard to break! My backstage tuner finally crapped after several decades and I replaced it with a clip-on. Yep, turned it on and then set the guitar volume to full to tune. Dumbass. Guys in the band couldn't stop laughing. Broke my balls all night.

So, did you also leave it clipped onto the headstock all night? I hate it when people do that.

Nope, Clip-on tuners will leave marks in a nitro finish if you leave them on. Besides, onstage I have a real tuner. Backstage tuner is to get you in the ballpark and make sure you only need a few seconds to sharpen it up.

Additionally, clip-on tuners onstage ALWAYS fall off and end up under a riser or something. Not professional.

I know I’m really old because I still use my old Boss TU-12 tuners in my bass rigs and don’t own a clip-on tuner. Why buy something different when the tools you’ve used for 25+ years keeps getting the job done?

C'mon, guys. Whatever happened to tuning by ear?

Oh, that's right. My hearing - along with the rest of me - is pretty shot these days.
