    Re: RIP Harry Belafonte

Harry Belafonte dropped off my radar screen early in my life, but he was an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner and reached the ripe old age of 96. So, hats off to "Day-Oh, Da-a-a-a-y Oh!"

I'd heard he'd become somewhat of a cantankerous old man ("Get off my lawn!"), but at 96 I think one can be anything they want to be.

Bummer! The first band that I played bass guitar as my main instrument was a night club group in 1963 where we did a lot of Belafonte tunes like Jamaica Farewell, Island In the Sun, Brown-skinned Girl, Man Piaba, etc. RIP Mr. Belafonte, you were a huge influence on me.
