The Sunday Thread for January 15, 2023

Nearly 7:30am EST and no one yet has posted a Sunday thread? Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. There's little happening around here, and it's looking like it's going to be a pretty normal day. Sunny, but chilly. I'm hoping to treat my family to dinner out tonight, but other than that, all is calm and peaceful. A light week ahead. Stay well, my friends.

Today was the first day I slept past 5:30 in long time. The extra three hours were a bonus. The Mrs. went down to spend the night with her son's family last night so I binged movies. First Kelly's Heroes - a cinematic joy and a favorite since I first saw it in high school. Then I went dark with Taking Chance. If you've never seen this movie it is amazing. Kevin Bacon plays a Marine Colonel; who volunteers to escort a fallen hero from Dover, Delaware to his home in Wyoming. Following the journey intermixed with how much love and respect is shown the young soldier is pretty remarkable. I admit I was bawling like a baby though most of the movie. Finally I put on my favorite western, Silverado. Still fabulous after all these years.

Spent Friday in the studio working with the new engineer/producer. We're making progress and I'm realizing just how much I let my playing atrophy since I backed off playing. Need to do a LOT more relearning!

Work will be mixed - a few meetings scheduled (looks like my Thursday night has been cancelled) and facilitiatng a board retreat on Saturday - that will be fun. I work with this board a lot and we all have fun while doing good work.

I can't believe that it is the middle of January and we still have no snow on the ground and the temps are running above freezing here on the west shore of Lake Michigan. This is really the strangest winter I can remember.

Nothing much happening here except I have someone stopping to look at furniture I'm getting rid of from my parent's home. I inherited the house last summer and have been emptying it out so I can sell it. On Monday I have St. Vincent de Paul coming to pick up the bedroom sets and living room furniture that I have donated to them. It was one way to get rid of it quickly.

Hope all have a great week.

Putting the amber on the Les Paul flame top this AM, so far it's really pretty. Played yesterday with the main band. Been trying to nail down that "Last Time" lick for the fun band. For some reason the combination of open strings, hammer-ons, and skipping strings at the same time gives me fits. It's really not an easy lick to play - correctly. I've seen lots of acts perform it but they never really nail that Brian Jones funkiness. It's a genius little guitar hook. And you can't miss it once during the whole song since it's so prominent.

Off to watch the Bills play Miami.

    Peace,

    Chuck

Be sure to get receipts so you can take a write-off on this years' taxes.

seasonally cool but for what it could be, not terribly cold. We too have no snow on the ground. that may change tonight and tomorrow but neither are projected to be much of anything. Then warmer temps and rain later this week should melt most of what we might get. I'm actually going to grill today, hope I don't run out of gas. I've been doing the lamp of the temple thing with this last tank.

A rough week with losing Mr Beck, I need to pick up my guitar more.

I’m looking forward to spring when I get my new Napoleon Prestige 500 pro grill delivered. I had our deck redone this past fall but it wasn’t done before the first little snow we got so I had the grill delivery held off till March/April. It looks like this one.

Played Thurs night, Sat night and Sun morning gigs (all on bass). Ran a few errands this afternoon then onto football. Weather was better today. While 24f when I left this am, the wind was light and out of the south.

I finished my 1st week at the new contract job Fri. So far so good but still need to find something perm. Made a couple good network connections Fri that we will see about this coming week.

Mon night will be working up music for 3 gigs that weekend as well as doing some re-stringing. 1st up is the Ric Bass followed by the Heritage 530 (think Gibby 330).
Need to have that done early so I can catch the beginning of Mondays game. Football is soon to be over.

Nice. I don’t have a proper grill currently. Have a smoker and a griddle. When I get decent weather and time to align, I’m feeling a rack of lamb in the smoker.

Oh and joke/wisdom of the day I shared with the team. Oddly they had never heard this. To the question, how many ??? (Insert guitar, Gun, whatever your hobby/vice is), do you need,,,,

Simply explain the equation: desired qty = n+1
