Fender Stratocaster Powered by Roland G5 Technology - Que ?

    '

First off, "Happy New Year" to those forumites on the board.

This is my first post (back here), for some considerable time !

As this IS mostly an American board, I'll need to (briefly) explain this next bit....

"Gumtree" is a site in England & U.K, which is basically the equiv' of your "Craigslist" - (for those in the U.S.A.)

Trawling thru tonight (basically, sheer boredom) & I came across THIS = Direct link, below....

"FENDER STRAT Powered by Roland G5 Technology"

    = I was like...... "W.T.F ?"

I recall in my teenage years (many moon ago), that Jimmy Page had a "Roland Equipped" Guitar**

    **(obviously tho', it wasn't a Fender - might've even been a Danelctro ?)

Anyways - This thing "cropped up" & left me wondering..... "I know NOTHING, as in S.F.A about these..."

Figured I'd open up a thread accordingly & ask fellow forumites "if" they've ever heard of it & what anyone might know ?

Am looking forward to some enlightenment here, hopefully - Just curious only, "Not Buying" - (Laughs !)

Incidentally, ALL of the attached worded blurb sayeth this.....

This is a discontinued product featured on the Roland website. Roland - G-5 | VG Stratocaster®. Hopefully that link works. Take a look at the video that explains the features of the technology. At the end of the video it says "2012", so I imagine that's about when it was introduced. I assume all of the processing takes place inside the body of the guitar, as it requires 4 Alkaline or Ni-Mh batteries. I'm just reading about it now.

......And is no longer logistically supported, either by Fender or Roland.

Well, I guess you would still have a "regular" Strat when the Roland part craps out. I didn't see this guitar listed in either the 2012 or 2013 Fender catalogs. It must not have been a Made in USA Strat, as they only make a reference to "American inline tuning keys" on the Roland site.

Perhaps it was only sold by Roland.

It was debuted on FMIC's product website at the time of introduction. I believe the instrument itself was made in Ensenada. The production window was low, around 18 months IIRC, and the guitar carried Fender's then-standard five year warranty. When the Roland core modules began to fail (and most of them eventually did) no repair parts were forthcoming and the VG Strats were in large measure abandoned by their owners.

I remember around the turn of the century Fender had a Roland-|Ready Strat, that had the
V-pickup built in, with the 13-pin cable, and IIRC, controls that you could go up and down banks of presets.
However, it was designed to work with the VG8 and VG33 effect / synth / whatever units (I guess you could say they were the forerunners of the Fractal and AX-S modelers today.)

Yeah, even if the guitar still works you'd need to track down a still functioning example of the supporting hardware and then a power amp (or two) and speakers.
