New Fender Line: American Vintage II

My first reaction is to stifle a yawn, as Fender rolls out its latest in name changes, price increases, and marketing material. Introducing the "American Vintage Series II" line of Stratocasters, Telecasters, Jazzmasters and basses.

This article at Reverb gushes about this "new" line (pardon the quotation marks; I'm still trying to figure out if they are new, or just another re-issue). All I know is that I'm not falling all over myself to be the first in line to get one. You?

How many times is Fender gonna re-invent the wheel?

IMHO the only real “improvements” they ever made on the original strat were the truss rod access in the headstock, the two point tremolo and the tone control for the bridge pickup.

i.e. the original American Standard series.

From the 80s to this very day, nothing worth noticing.

Gotta disagree. The 9.5" radius is a pretty big deal.
That said, the AV II specs don't seem to be very exciting. And it looks like they doubled up that orange tint they're putting on everything to make it look "old"

That too, though it’s a matter of taste and style… But: Didn’t that start making 9.5” radius necks in the 80s?

Fender sent Matthew Scott one of the new Strats for him to review, and he generally liked it. But I guess you have to be a little skeptical when a YouTuber gets a piece of equipment from a manufacturer.

Probably, but I'm not sure. I'm just talking about the "AVRI" stuff, or similar. The American Original series pretty much replaced their reissue line

As far as regular production guitars go, most of the "modifications" (wiring, two-knob strats, goofy trems & such) have been dropped & they returned to what works. Maybe the two-point trem would qualify as a refinement.
So yes, I see your point & I guess I agree

The old screw-in trem arm is the biggest PITA Fender ever did.
