    Princeton Dilemma :)

    Hi Guys,

Interested in peoples thoughts.. I am looking for a new bedroom / recording amp... I really like the Princeton...
I am looking at a couple of options.

Princeton Recording Amp (used) or wait for the Princeton Tonemaster (new I think mid-Nov release)

I have heard there are issues with the PRA attenuation.. but it is going to be half the price of the tonemaster. soooo..
and there there is the old tube vs modeled argument.

    cheers
    Mikey

Have you considered one of these......?

Output-wise, it's probably more appropriate for a bedroom than a Princeton Reverb.

Thanks for that, yes I did look at the Vibro Champ, whilst you are spot on re-volume. I will be using it quite a bit for recording as well so wanted something with a 'line out' that I can go into my audio interface / DAW.
Didnt really want to have MIC an amp and deal with that at home :)

In looking up the details of the '68 Vibro Champ Reverb, it doesn't appear to be tube rectified, yet it doesn't have a standby switch. Maybe they are using a thermistor to protect the reservoir cap. I haven't been able to find any online schematics for the amp and was just curious.

Roland builds a pretty solid amp with an impressive array of features.

If you are looking at the Roland solid state amp, consider the Fender Princeton Chorus from the late 80's to 90's. Fender sold a ton of them and they can be purchased currently for $300 to $400 in the US. Mono and stereo effects loops, reverb tank, onboard stereo chorus, line (headphone) out, 2 x 10" inch speakers and it is loud! The distortion channel is not very good.

A thirty or forty year-old solid-state amp for which repair parts are no longer available???

    GOOD LUCK!
