The Sunday Thread for July 10, 2022

We start a new week, now into the middle of the year doldrums and lazy vacation days. For some of us, that is. I just took a few days off, as my calendar is full of work over the coming weeks. As I posted in another thread, I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and so can check off that bucket list box now. I made it a two-fer, as I also went to the nearby (an hour's drive) Pro Football Hall of Fame. So I can say I've done that, too.

So now it's back to my normal Sunday: Some exercise, church, lunch and then kick back in the afternoon reading, playing guitar, perhaps some baseball on TV and my Sunday night stream of music out of Kansas City that puts me away for the night.

Does anyone have anything special going on today? Stay well, friends!

Nothing too special planned today. Church, then some F1 and then do so work. Was delayed a couple days in receiving an item I use for deliverable and this Tuesday I will be out of pocket for a Corp event. Was planning to go look at some
property today but my wife decided she didn’t like it.

Good morning! Busy week this past one - new boss at work - I've worked with her in one capacity of another for 39 years, but now she's the boss and who knows... Had great news from the doctor this week. A year ago I had a scare when my liver enzymes were all elevated and I went to a liver specialist. Part of the visit involved a Fibroscan, which detects scarring in the liver. As she was waiting for the results, she was explaining that a reading of 1-2 is normal, 4-5 is very high. When the results came back at 75 she was very concerned (that's as high as the machine registers). The order was to lose 10% of my body weight immediately, or risk cirrhosis. Well, in one year I lost 25% of my body weight and went back to the doc Friday. The same test resulted in a "17", which is still very high, but she said it shows my liver, without the body fat, is healing itself. In fact, she never saw that big of a drop before. Great news on the health front, that's for sure. Today I'll finish waterproofing the new ramp I built for my storage shed - the old one rotted away - and I'll get the thing mounted up. After that I need to use some aluminum tape to seal light leaks in a grow tent we have in the basement. The thing leaks light like a sieve.

The things we do for entertainment!!!!

    Have a great week everybody!

Today is the annual Miata Lawn event at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts. It starts at 10am and takes about 45 minutes to get there. It's also the last day of a busy vacation!

That's great news, GJ. Keep it up! I heard somewhere that the body has three organs which are fully repairable: The liver, the lungs and the skin. I'd add a fourth, the brain, but from what I see on the news these days, I have my doubts.

another chamber of commerce weekend. Yesterday a buddy brought some pepper plants over and we planted them in a pot that was in the yard when we bought the place. He doesn't even know what kind they are as he's been growing them for years and they're all cross-pollinated hybrids but they have purple Thai and Carolina reaper in them. put them by the mailbox where they'll get sun for most of the day. Just watered again before I sat down at the computer. I need to buy a watering can today.

Hand issues are bedeviling me, something happened to my right pinky and middle finger. No idea what, about the most strenuous thing I've done is grocery shopping. The pinky has a painful bump on the inside of the outermost knuckle, I can feel it when I palpate the finger with my left hand. The middle finger has some sort of strain/ache between the outer two knuckles.

Nothing planned today, going to try to play guitar. I tried the other night and it was one of those "why do I bother?" times.

It has been a really nice Sunday with upper 70° temps, a clear blue sky, and our son visiting after driving all night from Texas.

Yesterday we were the opening band at the annual Bryan Lee Memorial Blues Fest playing a set of great old tunes in a band made up of good friends who have shared the stage with Bryan at one time or another over the last 60 years. Here’s a short clip of our opening tune.

That's great news! Keep up the good work!

Great turn out at the Miata Lawn Event today- almost 250 cars showed up! That's a record. They weren't able to do it the past two years due to covid, so it was overdue!

Wife is free from the covid quarantine, finally tested negative.

Went to the range with the old man and we had a great time shooting together.

My usual 6-pack of Budweisers is waiting for me in the fridge and I’m feeling a little bit better.

Hopefully there’ll be band practice next Saturday.

Life is beginning to feel ok again.

Re: The Sunday Thread for July 10, 2022

Spent Saturday doing a wedding job, second outside job in week. Groom was about 85 so you can bet the house was a-rockin'. Was actually fun to play standards from the Real Book.

Yet another outside job next Saturday. New thing now seems to be the "set within a set" thing where I get to play acoustic on songs like Listen to the Music, Amie, and Stones Exile-era songs. I've trained our sound guy to be a competent guitar-wrangler so that helps immensely.

Sunday got to spend some time "in my office" on the boat. No sea monsters but some respectable catches. I love being miles from land and leaving my troubles back on the shore.

Work is beyond a shit-blizzard and my upcoming retirement can't come too fast. It's funny because they are trying to put a squeeze play on me to take over a different part of the company but have zero leverage over or incentives to offer me. I've never felt so free.

The Offshore-arosa is being remodeled. Had a nice thing happen Saturday when a major appliance dealer opened before hours to give me and the Mrs. a private sale. I told her to go wild and get whatever she wanted and it was so, so, so rewarding and heart-warming to see her have that experience. I hope it made up for all the early years decades ago when I was in school and we had to scrimp and save to live off raman noodles, and then all the times I was unavailable because of the demands of my career.

Precisely what they taste like, but the memories of eating ramen cups or machine-heated chicken salad sandwiches in convenience stores at 3am after gigging with the band are surprisingly pleasant…

That's why God invented 24-hour convenience stores and Jack In The Box.

Back in the day, my little sister in law was working with a group that I agreed to do a few gigs with. She and I rode together, (about 50 mi.), and after the gig I stopped at a convenience store for a snack. She didn't want anything, and I ate the junk food on the ride home, (chimichangas). She later told my wife she almost couldn't keep it down smelling the junk food, and watching me wolf it down!
