    Played a Tube Combo Sunday

For poops and giggles I played my old DR for a show (four hour show, what a workout!) instead of the rack system.

    Takeaways:

    A) WAY too heavy! Who needs that?
    B) Very difficult to keep separated in the mix, kept getting bleed over from the mic and that even ended up in my monitor mix
    C) Sound guy said "That was fun, but let's not do that anymore."
    D) Made playing a lot more work.

Combos are cool, but for any venue that holds more than a 50 people I'll stick with the hi powered stuff. Sounds soooooo much better and a lot easier to use.

Exactly. In 08 I went Fractal and never looked back. My tube combo is for my office only and fun back porch jams at friends. If it’s anything serious, the combo remains off and/or left behind.
