My Strat is loaded with Lawing Z-core pickups. Otherwise, it is wired pretty traditionally, except that the second tone pot is connected to the bridge pickup. I need to replace the 5-way switch, and while I am working on it, would like to try swapping the parallel-wired positions 2 and 4 for series wiring. I have two questions about this.

First, does anyone know why this wouldn't work with the Z-Cores? They otherwise seem to take wiring like single-coils (even though they aren't), so I have to imagine that I can wire them any way I would wire singles.

Second, does anyone know of a wiring scheme like this? Every example I seem to find features keeping the traditional Strat wiring and then, with a switch of some sort, adding series-wiring options on top of it. That's really not what I'm looking for, though. I'm willing to give up the parallel sounds and swap the series sounds in their place. So my preferred switch positions would be:

  • neck (with a tone pot)
  • neck and middle in series
  • middle (no tone pot)
  • middle and bridge in series
  • bridge (with a tone pot)

Does anyone have a good diagram for this?

Thanks for any help.
