Update Jan 2002. Guitars You Listen to the Most at the Moment

Harrison and Lennon on Let It Be and Abbey Road. The way these guys arrange what they play amazes me. It's instinctive and inventive. Understated a lot of times. Listen to the Giles Martin, recent remix of Abbey Road. Just amazing.

Robert Fripp. King Crimson. I'm trying to understand what he plays. The tuning he uses. He's a master.

Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears--what a great pop/rock guitarist.

Johnny Smith. Someone mentioned that my Eastman Archtop is based on Johnny Smith

The guitar players I have always listened to are Lonnie Mack, Duane Eddy, Les Paul, Stevie Ray, Michel Cusson, Eelco Gelling, and Bryan Lee. I’m a bass player so I just look to people who play with a feel that inspires me.

I just noticed my mislick--guitarists, I meant. But guitars you listen to would be good. ha ha.

I was listening to Clapton's guitar brownie the other day.

Not that well known outside of Louisiana and Texas, but I like Tab Benoit's playing. He's not that fancy, but plays with a lot of feel. Thinline telecaster with humbuckers, no effects, straight into a Super Reverb and another Fender amp (although I think he switched to different amps a while back). When I've seen him play live, he has to switch guitars often, because he breaks the e-string a lot. I even saw him break the e and b string on one song.

Check out his cover of "Blues so Bad" from his Fever For the Bayou album.

Tab's played our local (Bisbee, AZ) blues festival many times. Always delivered a solid performance.

My girlfriend likes Tab, so I’ve been listening to him too. Great player.

I think the guitar player I've been listening to and studying the most is John Mayer.

As a late born (70s) Dead head, I am so happy that this guy has been keeping Jerry's legacy alive.

Too bad he doesn't play the blues so often, I mean classic blues. He's a kickass player when it comes to mixing minor and major pentatonics over blues songs.

I've been mixing a bunch of Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple lately, with a smattering of Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder on the side.
