    Jim Messina

I got a flyer in the mail today for upcoming shows at The Barns at Wolf Trap. Wolf Trap, as many know, is a National Park, dedicated to the performing arts. It's the only such park in the USA. The Barns is a smaller venue on the grounds (the Filene Center is the "big show"), where a more intimate setting can be found.

Buried in the three pages of announcements I found: Jim Messina, October 6 & 7 at 8:00pm.

I was a Loggins & Messina fan a long time ago, and I loved the sounds Messina coaxed out of his Telecaster. I'm looking for tickets to one of the shows right now!

"Angry Eyes" has always been one of my favorites.

This will date me: When my daughter was born she, like most infants, had nights when she wouldn't sleep, and would cry and fuss, keeping both me and my wife awake. She would only fall asleep as one of us would rock her gently.

To make this endurable, I created a cassette tape (remember those?) of songs that had comfortable, rocking-to-sleep rhythms. I would put the tape into my player and walk about rocking my daughter until she fell asleep. Angry Eyes was one of those tunes.

My daughter turns 40 next January.

This is a pretty good live performance of Angry Eyes. I check it out often.
