It's The Sunday Thread For August 15, 2021

And I can't think of a clever subject line. I haven't finished my first cup of coffee, yet.

We're going through the hottest part of the year now, and it's disrupting some of my planned activities. I have purchased all the necessities to give my new car a ceramic coating, but I need dry, shade, and temperatures below 90°F (32°C). We've had the daily thunderstorms amidst the heat wave, so my car sits in the garage along with the waxing materials. Maybe today (it's supposed to be cooler).

Last week was a training week for me, this week is a recovery week (believe it or not, being a trainer, while enjoyable for me, is work and takes a lot out of me. It's like performing on stage, because that's actually what I'm doing). The week after is another.

So, if I can't put in some sweat equity on my car, I'll cook, watch some baseball, play some guitar, and decompress. It's August, after all.

    Stay frosty, ebberbody.

I got up at 5am to make German multi-grain, seeded rolls--because my daughter is here. My kids like the things they remember from Germany. This is the last batch I made.

I eat them open face. Spread a layer of butter on them. I like cheese, onions, and tomato on one, maybe liverwurst on another, jam on one, etc.... Cup of coffee with them = pleasure coma for me.

It's a beautiful day here on the west shore of Lake Michigan with clear blue sky and temps in the upper 70s and low humidity. We're supposed to have the same weather in the coming week.

I spent yesterday in the driveway cleaning on the old Harley Sportster after hosing down the bottom end of it with Gunk Foamy Engine Cleaner. It's tuff to remove the past 37 years of neglect the poor old thing had received but it's looking better.

I also managed to remove and discard the under-hood felt pad from my old Cadillac. For the last few years I noticed a lot of mouse activity in the garage where the car was stored and found that area between pad and hood had become a genuine mouse hotel. When I brought the car home and put it in the garage you could actually smell the mouse infestation so it's a relief to have that cleaned out.

another very late morning for me, I've been staying up way late and getting up late. Previously, I was going to bed late but getting up at a reasonable time. I would nap during the day. I need to re-adjust my circadian cycle. This pretty much started after the happy computer rodeo that began the month. Time to pull out of the nosedive.

Speaking of nose, something is in season right now and it has my number. I'm sneezing and blowing my nose a lot. At least I think it's allergies ...

time for more coffee. Speaking of coffee, I tried one of those hard coffees yesterday, by PBR. Blah. Don't bother.

OK, here’s a before (about two weeks after purchasing with two flat tires and a lot of deteriorating chrome), and an after shot that was shot in the garage a couple of weeks ago. I’m still working at cleaning rotten chrome, but it’s getting better.
In the first photo notice the pile of dirt on the floor by the rusty exhaust pipes…that’s the amount of mouse poop that came out of the rear pipe.

The day turned out pretty nice for a ceramic waxing. It took me about three hours to wash, clay bar, iso-wash (spray and wipe with a 15%30% isopropyl alcohol and distilled water solution) and apply the ceramic. It's supposed to take a few hours to cure, and to keep it out of the sunlight to take a photograph, I pulled it in front of a neighbor's under a shade tree.

Photographing a car with a shiny, reflective coating is not easy. After it cures, I'm going to see if I can't find a better place.

Oldstrummer, do you remember Blue Coral wax jobs that were a huge PIA to accomplish? I was trying to Blue Coral my ‘58 Belair in front of my parent’s home at midnight back in 1963 (it was the best way to get a Blue Coral job done) when I heard the sound of someone running up behind me and grabbing me. A local cop had creeped down our block to put the snatch on me after one of my parent’s neighbors called in that someone was vandalizing my car. It was really a funny moment.

I do remember Blue Coral (I think I have some in my garage). I've tried a number of upscale waxes and finishes: BlackFire BlackICE, Meguiars, and my favorite, Zaino. I recently heard about ceramic finish, and how it can last 3-5 years. I bought some from Avalonking. Now, I'll have to wait a few years to see if it lives up to the promise
