Agreed. Even by going with a kit from any of a number of builders, they're running under $1000. StewMac's seems to be pretty good, Mojo, Mission, Weber, and I don't know how many others there are are around the same. There's even builders who will do it for around that price - I know a small one here that'll do it for $800 or so - though I like the idea of being hands on, and I don't know offhand the componentery the local one uses.
FMIC claims theirs is handwired, but I don't know. Even so, it's still way overpriced.

    TOTAL BULLSHIT!

Fender's POS is loaded with ribbon and spade connectors plus components made mostly offshore. The switch bats are shielded with "booties" and there's a rat cage around the large tubes. It looks just like a Hot Rod Disgrace in that regard.

    I wouldn't accept one as a gift.

Have any of you built an amp approaching vintage-sound quality? Serious question. Or is it the age of those amps, parts that you can't get now.

I have that same curiosity. Never got to try a real aged, vintage amp.

Should you ever make it to Arizona and drop by for a visit, you're welcome to sample any of my vintage artifacts.

A few other forum members have dropped by over the years and we all had a swell time.

I'll lay out a lunch spread as well.

My delayed honeymoon will be spent in California, I’ll make sure to spare some cash and time to take two planes then. One to Arizona, then another to Tennessee. Or maybe I’ll go wild and rent a good car and drive. If the missus is up to the road trip.

Speaking of the Stones and Ronnie, I really liked how these guys came out swinging in the 70s.

    yesssss, Ronnie's slinging it.

Billy Preston's playing is so good here. Miss seeing and hearing him. What a great talent.
