Today has been one of those fun, ass-kickin', so-simple-it's-stupid days. I'm sure you all have had similar days.

I started this morning noodling on my guitar when the intro to Ten Years After's "As The Sun Still Burns Away" came into my head and fingers. There's nothing to the song other than the ever-repeating Em pentatonic refrain and Alvin Lee's overdubbed multi-guitar jamming and effects.

Still in the simplistic groove, I started to rock out on Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," which I first heard played by Blue Cheer in 1968, and then later by the Who (1970's Live At Leeds is a terrific example).

Neither of these songs is complex. I sometimes find myself tackling more difficult pieces to play, possibly to feed my ego about how advanced I've become, but today I "got back to the roots" and just started jamming away to the simple, more basic stuff. It was fun!

Days like this can be a real treat!
