A serious question about tremolo arms:

Are there any significant differences between the tremolo arms from Fender? They all have different part numbers, but how much different can they be?
Fender American Standard Stratocaster Tremolo Arm, 099-2054-000
Fender American Vintage Stratocaster Tremolo Arm - chrome, 099-2039-000
    Fender American Special/Highway 1 Strat, 007-3643-000

It's even murkier than that. IIRC there are at least two different trem arms for the "Asian/import" bridges from Taiwan and the PRC.

Then there are the snap-in types......

They are not all interchangeable, that I know for sure.

Yep, they're all slightly different sizes. A US Standard (whatever they call them these days) won't fit a MIM, won't fit a Squier, etc. |And more fun is when various series of US or MIM, etc, bar won't fit each other. Even 20 years ago, working at GC, I had to find a replacement bar for a guy - I tried every bar in the drawer, and still had to end up special ordering one for him. And that took a call to Fender directly, and a good half and hour of back and forths to get the right part number.
Thank goodness the gut had the exact model and year of the guitar (he bought it used, and not from us; the bar wasn't there, but the original case candy was...)

don't even start on the non-fender brand copies. I bought a trem arm on Amazon and I get emails all the time asking about some brand I never heard of before "will this trem arm fit my bozakian oozla strat copy?"

I just say "I don't know the answer" although I really want to say "No, it won't and you're hosed."
