Just make sure your mother doesn't send it back too.

Janette, unfortunately, your question is too broad to receive much more than generalized answers. It would be helpful if you could specify your requirements. Such as:

    • Do you have any size/space requirements? You might want Marshall stacks but have room for only a single.
    • Is power output important to you? These days, most performers run through sound boards, so smaller, less powerful amps often suffice.
    • Does it matter if the amp is all solid-state, or is a tube (traditional) amp preferred?
    • Do you want to play effects? Pedals, or a combo (modeling) amp?

Personally, I have a number of amps. They all fit into the single-speaker (12", usually) category, but I have a Line6 AMPLIFi 30, which is a lunchbox-sized modeling amp (solid-state), which is a real kick to play through. I'm also considering the new Fender Mustang Micro, which is a modeling amp that lets you play "silently" through headphones but with the different amp effects available through larger units.
