Just took a peek at Mayer’s new album, a few singles were just released on Apple Music, Spotify, and so on.
Yeah, cool but he definitely belongs with Dead & Co.

Mayer's doing a good job wiht Dead and Co., but I still muse what Vince Gill could have done there. He has the voice and the chops.

A sample. Whoever digs 80s style music might like it
Interesting.
There are definitely a few 80's influences, but the whole thing is a bit more sophisticated to just pass it off as 80s. Very slick production. Great sounds.
If you're bored, you're not groovin'.
not fair, having that much hair and talent

Too bad the rest of the songs that were released yesterday (I was listening to the first singles on Apple Music before) are a bit too soft for my own taste but it’s definitely a great production.
Whenever I have problems falling asleep I put on some John Mayer.

I saw something about this on my facebook feed this morning - the comments were hilarious.
I'm not a fan of John's, so I'll keep my own opinions to myself.

It’s a project, a bit of fun. It’s a 3/5 star album. Nice songs. Nothing tedious.
I’m not a fan so much but this album isn’t bad. It’s good for wot it is. It’s not Dark side of the Moon or Abbey Road, but it’s nice. Nice.

His own albums and the gigs he plays when he tours after releasing those are indeed a bit boring.
But he is one hell of a blues player and he sure knows his Dead stuff. I can't think of a better replacement for Jerry Garcia nowadays.
Too bad he insists in being a pop guy, but money is good.

I like Steve Miller before and after The Joker, but I enjoy the older stuff most.
As for John M. I tend to see an album like this as a bit of fun. If I were a recording star, I might do an album of 20s jazz-like songs. It'd be a blast, but it wouldn't be original. Many of us come from the time when artists, with each album, showed some kind of progress or discovery that developed their talents and music--and sometimes even made contributions to world culture. I wish an artist like John Mayer would do something original, but it's never happened, and it never will. The genre has to change to stay alive. John Mayer's 80s is a museum of dead subjects behind a glass.
So you either get the hits or the stuff that appeals to guitarists. We expect him to progress: it's never going to happen and never will happen. Great guitarist and he's written some nice songs. He's genre hopping, not creating something new. I don't mind. It's pleasant to have on in the background while I sauté squash. That's not an insult. I enjoy it that way. I can't concentrate on Dylan's lyrics if I'm chopping produce.
