I just had a good laugh

As you know, I rarely post in other forums at all, but I do read many. Mainly because I like to keep informed about what people are talking about regarding new gear and new music. But also because from time to time you get to read priceless pieces of BS that can make you laugh for hours.

I just read a thread somewhere else about one alleged guitar collector saying that if you resolder a pot or the jack in a guitar, it's no longer factory original, thus getting devaluated and becoming less desireable.

Meanwhile, I see some folks who are pretty damn serious about collecting vintage guitars, like a certain Mr. Joe B, buying a '59 Burst that had been entirely butchered and painted red, and restoring it.

Mister "Joe" definitely compromised the value of that vintage guitar.

    *Definitely*!

I guess you devalue it even more if you change the strings.

What about the bits of dirt and grease that build up in the nooks? That's a significant mod. After 50 years, a Les Paul is practically worthless.

Last month I had to put a new battery in my '69 Chevelle SS396.

I'm guessing that "mod" diminished the car's value by ten grand or more.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want it now. The metal's probably worth something. I have an old grinder I'd trade if you'give me the car and maybe $3.50 on top of that. Sweetheart deal for you.

    I'll get right on that.

You'll have to pay for the new battery though.

Only $44,996.50 from my local Vato Zone. Came with a 3/36 warranty.

I filed down the sharp fret ends of my Esquire, I probably devalued it

I put a strap on my Classic Player Triple Tele. I guess that makes the strap more valuable than the guitar.
