    Putting in side dots.

Have any of you ever done this on a finished neck?

I've been watching vids and will go back to them, but I wondered what your experience has been when doing the job. I've got the tools: drill guide, little drill that I turn with my fingers, a bench to clamp the neck on, etc. I'm still thinking about what material to use. Do you have a preference--I need dark dots, but they don't have to be black. And after i've filled the holes with the material, is there some sort of finish I should put over them?

I think Stew Mac has the plastic rod. You should be able to drill, glue with CA, cut just proud of flush, and then file flush, then sand with 600 grit, then 1000 grit and then buff and polish.

Thanks, Chuck. StewMac is now my best friend. And you since you know stuff!!!! I'd forgotten that I already ordered the dot material from StewMac.

I appreciate the info. I'm trying to do a lot more of the work I"d normally give to a tech.

Hey, you race 'em, you wreck 'em. My guitars have all worked for a living. If you gig a lot you need to be good at fixing them too! I still carry a soldering iron in my bag along with CA, wire, gaffer's tape and who knows what other detritus that has settled in there over the decades. I've added a headband flashlight too it recently. REALLY helps the old eyes hooking up the PA and fixing guitars and whatever breaks that night.

I work at avoiding buckle rash, but other than that it is what it is.
