1988 Am. Std. body...2006 Am.Std. neck on the way.

Ok, I kinda stole ch willie's title but hey, I mean no harm.

So I traded a 2016 Epiphone Les Paul for a partscaster this morning. It has an older (small frets) MIM rosewood neck on it now with a fake US serial number on the BACK of the headstock...but the body is genuine Fender American Standard with a date stamp of 11/23/1988 in the neck pocket. I found a used (of course) 2006 Am.Std. neck for cheap (!) on Epay and scooped it up right away. Should arrive next week.

Does anyone know if Candy Apple Red Metallic was used in 1988 or 1989 Strats? This one could be a repaint, I suppose. I haven't been in the swimming pool rout yet...that's next.

I love the CAR finishes and had a 96 AmStd that color. Really nice looking. It was metallic, which I think is standard CAR?

David Gilmour got his 3 CAR Strats in 84, and PF was making a splash again, and I'd suspect DG sold a few CAR guitars for them.

AFAIK yes, Fender made CAR strats in the late 80s.

Got the all USA partscaster finished! Pic shows it with my flamed blue burst Player Strat HSS. Both play great.

Now to save for some pickup swaps, lol.

Hey! Don't ever post a pic of that red one again--ugly as a warty witch.....I'm just kidding. I love the looks of it so much that my GAS is at dangerous levels.

Congrats. They are both beautiful guitars. The red is just damned classy. It'll look great too if you ever play live. Get someone to take photos and then see how beautiful that guitar looks in the lights.

BTW, great photo too. Nicely shot.
