    MIM '90's Signature guitars?

I've got a black '96 MIM, and when I input the serial# into one of the databases, it comes up with the notation "Signature" but without saying which model. On the headstock, where signatures usually are, there's a patch where the finish has been buffed down to the wood, like somebody really, REALLY didn't want a signature guitar of whoever it was. I've roamed around the internet looking for answers, and have come up empty. And no, I know nothing of its history before I got it about 15 years ago, other than the fact that I kind of stole it in a trade with a guy who had no idea how to play it (I call it "my $43 Strat", but that's another story for another day.

It might help if you can post a photo. You'll have to upload your photo to a hosting site and then get a tag. You'll then need to add a tag formatted like this one to your post:

Or at least colour, fingerboard material, pickups, bridge, etc?

might be worthwhile to look through the ‘96 catalog and see if you find something that matches.

From a picture I saw on Reverb.com, they had the following signature guitars that year: Jeff Beck, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Yngwie, Bonnie Raitt, Richie Blackmore, SRV for Strat models. Not sure if all were MIM or not.

IIRC most of those were USA made guitars - certainly the Beck, Clapton, SRV, Blackmore and Yngwie. Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt I think might have been MIM, along with Jimmy Vaughan and a couple others, I think. (some or all might have had custom shop versions and |"regular" versions, be it US-made or MIM.)

yeah, that makes sense. I recall jonesin' for the JLV Strat back in the day, definitely MIM, but closer to 2000 or 2001 for that model. Buddy Guy Strat I'm almost certain is MIM.
