    Price Increases?

Sitting through a boring weekly online meeting, I started to surf the guitar sites and noticed something funny: The guitars I typically focus on all seem to have had price increases. Gibson LPs are now running around $2,500 (US), Strats are showing at around $1,900, Teles are creeping up around $1,900, and so on. I pretty much pass on the lower end (sorry if that sounds elitist, but it's where my sweet spot is).

This is true on Sweetwater, Zzounds, CME and AMS, so it's not just one store. Has anyone else noticed an upward creep in new guitar prices?

    Re: Price Increases?

oh yes. Even the entry level stuff, IMHO Classic Vibe is entry level are 400 to 450. I bought my CV50 Tele in '10 for 290 and it should have been 279 as it was an '08 but I liked it and am glad I bought it.

The bullets and affinity stuff are now around 200, they used to be sub-100 and a buck o'nine. I've encountered a new form of snobbery in a certain forum where they brag about how little they pay for guitars. I paid 299 for a CV50 strat all in with a hardshell case and they basically sniffed and said 'so much?' Um, yeah, new that would have been over 5 bills.

    Re: Price Increases?

I noticed for a time that Fender raised the price of their AmStd/AmSe/AmPro by $100 once in a while. When I bought my AmStd in 2008, it cost $1099. Now, they're about $1500. I guess that's not bad for a 12 year period.

    Re: Price Increases?

But the prices seem to apply to only new guitars. A quick check shows that a 2013 Gibson SG I bought in 2016 for just under $800 is going for roughly the same price. A 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special I bought for $750 is still going for that price.

I learned the hard way that guitars are a lousy investment.
