    Neck Pup in a Tele?

Sérgio's Micawber project has me thinking about neck humbuckers. I had a Strat with a Burstbucker in the neck position, and it was too bassy and muddy no matter the pots or height adjustment.

You who have neck humbuckers, what do you think about them? How would you characterize the one(s) in your Telecaster(s)?a

I've always thought humbuckers on Teles were heretical. But then I got my short-scale Modern Player Tele and, truth be told, it sounds pretty good. I haven't had it long enough to put it through its paces, amp-wise, but the Guild neck humbucker does seem to give it a king of "smoky" sound when playing blues.

There is a kind of "whumpf" to Keith's rhythm playing, by which I THINK I mean something to do with compression. I hear it in sc Teles, but it's a different sound. Pardon the technical jargon. i might use words like "vibe" and "aura" next.
