1972 Fender neck with 1969 date?

Can someone please tell me if this is possible. A 1972 Strat neck with a penciled in date from 1969? Looks like the stamp is pretty worn off, just some evidence of one being there. From what is visible it doesn't look like a typical Month, year type stamp. Is this legit? Anyone ever hear of Fender pencil writing in a date like this? Could it be a left over neck or perhaps a replacement done by Fender?

    Thanks!

That's an oddity - a 1972 Strat should have the bullet truss rod adjuster, the micro-tilt disc on the heel, etc. If that neck has those features then it couldn't be a 1969 neck as Fender didn't start making them that way until 1971. And a 1969 neck should have the truss rod adjustment screw on the heel.

That makes sense, no idea why that pencil date is there?

Everything looks right on the neck - I suspect that it either wasn't stamped or the original date stamp faded and someone wrote that 1969 date after the fact.

Question though - was Fender using those name stamps like "J. Torres" (or maybe it's "U. Torres") back then? I know they were by the end of the 1970s, but I'm not 100% sure when that starts.

From what I have read it seems "J. Torres" was on a lot of Fenders during that time period, including basses.
