    Pete Anderson / Dwight Yoakam

Pete's sound with Dwight Yoakam's stuff increased my love for the Tele. The twang he got on some of DY's stuff set the bar for what I wanted my Tele to sound like. Anybody into his playing? His leads are tasteful and just right for the song.

Equally as important to me was Robbie McIntosh's Tele on the Pretender's recordings. He's a fantastic guitarist, played with McCartney in the late 80s and early 90s, he and Jimmy McCullough my fave guitarists that Macca had in his solo bands.

Yoakam's greatest hits album Just Lookin' for a Hit was the first country album I owned (I think it's still the only country album I own). I borrowed the album so much from a friend that he gave me a copy for Christmas one year. I learned a lot of licks off of that album!

I'm not a fan of country since the 70s, but I really like folks like Dwight Yoakam. His music has one step in traditional Bakersfield-sound country and one in 1950s rock, I'd even say rockabilly.

I bought Yoakum's 1993 "This Time" CD after hearing A Thousand Miles From Nowhere on -- are you ready for this -- a computer I'd purchased.

That's right, Apple included this track on Macintosh computers. At one time, Apple and Microsoft included sample files to promote software on their systems, and this song was one to demonstrate (I think) iTunes. I liked it enough to buy the album, where I found another one of his gems, Ain't That Lonely Yet.

I did the same thing when I posted my reply. In fact, I thought I went back and corrected mine!

Dammit, you made me have to change mine too. I do feel better though but still embarrassed about my spelling in the thread title. Oops.

Pete Anderson often plays a Strat, too. On Dwight's live album (I forget the name), he's on that middle pickup position a whole lot.
