What does the V3 Do?
I think V1 is clean V2 Gain V3?
Thanks

Oh Man!!! I never knew Fender made amps too!!!
I'm not sure i understand the question... (i'm dumb btw). Are you asking about tube placement or what the "channels" do?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was refering to preamp tube positions. I don't know what the third one is for. I'm pretty sure 1 is clean and 2 is the gain channel.
Thanks for any help..

Probably a phase inverter. But I'm no expert.Originally posted by brianf

Brianf,
I just reviewed the schematic for the HR DeVille and V3A and V3B are in deed the phase inverter.

To Tim C.
Thanks Tim C. You mention V3A and V3B though. What is V3B?
Thanks again!

A 12AX7 has two tubes in one bottle and each half is designated with an A and B on the schematic.
Think of V3 in your amp as the phase inverter.
In some amps one half of a 12AX7 tube might be for vibrato and the other half might be gain for another section of the amp. Every amp is different.
Your amp has what is known as a long tail pair phase inverter which requires the use of the entire tube, both the A and B sides.

Oh Tim C.
My head hurts now. I use 12AT 7's though. When I first got the amp there was too much gain. I put 12AT7's across the board. Should I only be using it in V2?
Thanks again.

You can use a 12AT7 safely anywhere that you would normally use a 12AX7.
The 12AT7's amplification factor is 60 as compared the the 12AX7 with a gain of 100. The 12AT7 will pass more current than a 12AX7 and that's a good thing.

Thanks Tim!!!
