    Pulled the trigger

Based on our last chat here at TFF, just got my small amp... Decided on a Blues Jr. Tweed, brand new. Here’s an actual photo of the product...

You might stock up on some matched pairs of EL84 power tubes -- the BJ goes through them pretty quickly.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

They are supposed to have fixed many of the bugs the early ones had, and done many of (aftermarket) upgrades that some thought they needed. The "cream board" BJ that I picked up, already had the "mods" done when I got it, and when I got rid of it, was really a nice little amp. There are some features that I really can't understand, though. The pots are circuit board mounted, and the shafts simply pass through the chassis, one needs to be very careful!

I can't wait to hear what you think of the amp.

Ok, the little devil has been shipped. It'll be a 3-4 days wait.

I'll reserve comment since I have very little experience with those "mini" bottles.

    Re: Pulled the trigger

A few years ago I grabbed a Gibson GA-1 Amp for a song (Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the day).

It's a fun little amp for those times when I want to just make a "little" noise. The Hughes and Kettner 20th Anniversary Amp was also a Stupid Deal of the day.

I rarely use amps for live playing anymore, but when I do I'll generally take a small amp and mic it. It's a lot easier to play a small amp opened up than a big one throttled down.

Champs, Jets, etc., are all great to gig with. As the allowable volume gets lower and lower at live music venues these days it's nice to have small amps.

Yes, that's the main reason for me to buy another amp.

I have a severe case of GAS regarding guitars and pedals, which I try to keep on a leash given the fact that I don't really NEED other guitars. But amps, well, I never really cared much for them as my 40 watt Fender was more than enough for my live gigs, but I always ended up mic'ing it and using too little volume.

Also, I'm not 30 years old anymore and my back and wrists will thank me for getting a lighter and smaller amp. Carrying the stuff around when we can't count on roadies is probably the worst part of gigging. Especially when there are stairs in the equation.

Need? NEED??? The only guitar one ever NEEDS is the one he or she is playing!
