Last few days have been brutal. My wife's daughter died on Tuesday due to complications of heart disease brought on by alcohol and we believe - heroin addiction. My wife is freaked out. She was only 36 had had a 16 year-old son.

My heart goes out to you, GJ. I've felt the effects of addiction in my life, too. It's nasty. And deadly, as you know. The worst thing about it is we -- the ones closest to the addict -- are powerless to do anything about it. My condolences and prayers.
that's brutal. I had a cousin OD in a Florida hotel bathroom years ago ('80s I think, or early '90s). Just yesterday my friend got news that his college roommate's brother had passed from OD-ing and he had a couple kids too.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your wife finds some peace. That's hell.

Thinking of you Brother.
What happend?
Who let the magic smoke out?
My nephew killed himself while on a drug bender. His dad never got over it, and drank himself stupid. Had to be in a home for a few years, but then he too was gone.
Yeah, life sucks sometimes!
Sorry for your loss and the bad phase you're going through, my friend.
Keep the faith.
Really sorry, Nick. My condolences to you and your family.
Nick, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm not a Christian, but there's a lot of value in the serenity prayer.
Sad news friend.
Sending you good mojo.
I have decided to be happy because it's good for my health.
Nick, no words. I do appreciate you sharing.
I know you'll be a great comfort to your wife, but also know that if you need to talk it over a lot of us are only a phone call away.
No single one of us is as strong as all of us together.
Also tell her I really appreciated the phone call she made to me a little while ago, it was a kind gesture and met a lot to me.

Aw, man. My condolences.
I was thinking about you guys the other night. I can't imagine what you guys are going through! I hope Mrs Gibsonjunkie is okay and can manage through this.

As you can imagine, she's pretty devastated. We are having the calling hours on Sunday afternoon and the burial Monday. I can't imagine her settling down until after that. One thing that has helped is that she's stayed sober the entire time - I never would have expected that. It has made it a lot easier to deal with - for both of us. She's really trying to keep it together!
