    NGD Soon--Dream Guitar

I finally did it. I've been wanting one of these for decades.

I got confirmation. It'll be shipped by ground, so the wait begins. In the meantime, here it is.

Looks really nice, Willie! Isn't it interesting the "revival" going on here when it comes to Rics!

    Re: NGD Soon--Dream Guitar

Thanks so much. I've always been a Ric fan, but had other guitar priorities. I'm glad to see more people playing them. It's reinjecting a different guitar sound into a lot of the alt and indie rock out there now.

I'm so excited, too excited. I'll be so obsessed that I won't be able to sleep.

I've asked a local Beatle freak drummer if he wants to do a one off tribute show of The Beatles. I'm ready with the Hofner, the 4001, and now the 330.

    Congrats, buddy!

I’m sure you’ll like it. The high gains, though not exactly high output pickups, have a bit more bite than the toasters, but with plenty of jangle.

Ricks are very particular guitars, it takes character to sling one in a jam. They’re especially appreciated by indie and psychedelic players nowadays.

That's cool! I've never had a Ric! Same as you, I've had other guitar priorities.

Maybe I was put off by my early experiences with '70s maple fingerboard Fenders but the one and probably only Ric I've ever played had the same 'flypaper' fingerboard feel. I'd really like to try one for real someday. That is freaking beautiful.

Is it obligatory to play them through British amps, though? (I know it was an American guitar company but I've always associated them with the British wave mostly because of the Beatles).

    Which model is it?

I admit I bought it because of The Beatles. It's a Ric 330 in Fireglo.

Matchless is based in California, Ken Fischer was in New Jersey and several of the builders of that style are US based (Komet in Louisiana), if country of origin for a good AC30 is of concern to you D:

    Ooh, I want a Matchless.

Dan, I can't look at the 330 without thinking George. The pups are now "high gain," but they're not too hot, still different from the old toasters.

I admit that I'd like a Vox AC15 just for The Beatle-y look. I love those amps anyway.

It's scheduled to arrive on Monday, the 24th.

I thought it would be a few years before I'd snag a 330. I can't describe how excited I am about it.

For what it's worth, mine has the very same pickups as Willie's and I play it through a Fender valve amp. Sounds delicious.

It's here!!!! I've already played a bit with it.

Perfect in my hands. Comfortable to play. Classic Ric sound. Well made and beautiful. Couldn't be happier.

I made some videos and put them on Flickr. Unfortunately, it only lets me share pics and not videos. I'll have to figure something out.

It howls. I hadn't expected it to do that. I can understand why Serge plays a Rick in a rock band.

The real magic for me is in the clean sounds. I'm still learning what it can do, but for now I'm totally pleased.

It's so comfortable in my hands, it feels like I've been playing it for decades. Nice chunky neck on this one, not overly large, but substantial enough to grip.

I'm dying to take this thing out to play. I'm frustrated with the lack of players in my area, but persistence...

Congrats! The neck was the first thing I noticed. Looks pretty flat. 12" radius? I've been playing wide, flat necks a lot recently. I think I like them. A lot!

I'm not sure about the radius. It's a chunky neck, but not overly wide, which would give me difficulties.

I believe so on the 330s and 360s--not sure about the other ones. This is the first guitar I've ever played with 24 frets. It's not that hard to get used to it. I don't think I'll play up that high anyway. Nice to have the extra frets if I ever need them.

I had another hour to give it a play. Totally blown away by the construction of it, how well made and detailed it is. When I'm not playing it, I'm staring at it.

I read up on it. The older Ric 330s had 21 frets. Mine has 24. Oddly, I have no trouble adapting to it.

    Re: NGD Soon--Dream Guitar

I like this geet more every day. I was messing around with tone settings and dialed in that Roger McGuinn tone. I don't know why I should be surprised, but it was a pleasant surpirise--hadn't even thought about it.

I'd been feeling a bit guilty about my purchase, thinking, a Tele can handle anything a Ric does, but it can't (and vise verse). I love having this extra color for the paintings I make.

It's a gorgeous specimen to be sure!

If I could find a 360/12 in Fireglo that fit my fat hands I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

Of course then I'd need a vintage AC30TB to go with.

Even now I can here the riff from "Eight Days A Week" in my head.

Roger I'd love a 360/12 and plan to buy one when I finally retire for good.

I got this close to buying an AC30. Vintage and fully functional. I want one pretty badly.

Man, I'd never played one until 3 years ago. They had looked flimsy to me in pictures, and I didn't expect the build quality and sound of the 330 to be worth a shit. But man was I ignorant. And hey, my 330 is great for leads. I know Rics are usually not thought of it that way, but I coax some good bluesy rock tones out of it through my DRRI and my OCD pedal. Or the Rat.
