    Now, this was unbeliavable...

but I swear I'm telling the truth.

I came home late after a tough day at the office and on my way home I stopped by a Mc Donald's drive thru to get a couple of sandwiches for dinner, planning to send them down with a couple of Buds.

Well, I ordered two McChickens (I don't usually eat fries or any other side dish, so I needed two sandwiches), I was in the mood for some chicken. They came in the regular brown paper bag. Paid, grabbed it and off I went.

As I arrived home, I drank a Bud and browsed the web for vintage burger ads (I do that). And found this juicy Quarter Pounder with Cheese ad from 1979:

Well, the Quarter Pounder has always been a favorite of yours truly, and on I went, reading about it as I chewed the first McChicken, already regretting having ordered two of those, instead of a juicy, pickly, cheddary and ketchuppy QPer.

I even found an ad by Gino's where the chick says something about a Quarter Pound, I didn't even know that other burger chains had burgers called that.

Now, as I reached for the second McChicken in the bag, cursing myself to death-and-hell for not having ordered the God Damned Quarter Pounder... Guess what? They had mistakenly given me a Quarter Pounder instead of the second McChicken.

I don't know if that was a blessing, a casual occurence or whatever, man, That was GOOD.

For a while McDonalds was fresh-cooking quarter pounders to order. They were REALLY good! That trend seems to be fading, but once in a while a good Q.P. (and fries) is just what the doctor ordered ()

It definitely AIN’T real meat, I’d say it ain’t even real food! Thing is, sometimes you’re too tired or too close to home to go get something better late at night.

In my life, I’ve had superb meals and awful ones. And I tell you, some of the bad ones were among the best, given circumstances!

The rare times I eat at McDo’s these days, it’ll be a double quarter pounder with cheese meal. Large fries and a small coke. When I was gigging, this was my traditional pre gig meal. Guaranteed to prevent bowel movements for many many hours and filled me so well that I was not tempted by the bar food.

Funny, I myself don’t eat before gigs. Or drink alcohol. Only afterwards.

Funny, McDonalds has the exact opposite effect on my digestion.

I'll break down and have a McDouble, some McFries, and a McShake, and then I go home and have the McShits. (not an orig. joke but true in my case).

I very rarely have anything besides an Egg McMuffin from McDs. Their coffee is superb, I'll give them that and it is frequently only a buck no matter what size. Well, add 9 cents here for our meals tax but that's still the best price in town by far.

Every once in a while, maybe 3 or 4 times a year when pressed for time and starving, I'll hit the drive through for a pair of regular cheeseburgers. Interestingly, those often coincide with my trips to the guitar store and the McDs at the rte 4 traffic circle in Lee NH is on my way home. I haven't had a big mac or quarter pounder since the change of the millennium and probably a good 15 plus years before either. I've had the fish filets when eating with my mom during lent but that's been a couple years now.

I did get fries this year during one of my guitar store trips. First time this century I believe.

On rte 101-A, we've had not one but three McDs fail and close, on the busiest east-west road in the entire state. Currently there are no McDs in the northwest corner of the city, there's one in the southwest corner, the south end retail district and on the east side (24 hours, the only one) for a city with a population of just under 90K.

Sometimes when you are really hungry a Quarter Pounder is awesome. I also like their hotcakes and sausage once in a while with a cup of their really good coffee.

McDonald's coffee is what I get when I can't get a good espresso latte and I'm out and about in the morning. If I'm going to have percolated coffee, I prefer what I make at home.

I’m not into milky coffee. I love the filtered black stuff they make in their Bunn coffee brewers.

I gotta have milk in the coffee.
I have a Bunn machine--worth the $100 you pay for them. It takes me 2 minutes or 3 minutes to get hot java.

I've become a bit of a coffee snob over the past year or so. Ever since I went to Costa Rica. Now I have a subscription that delivers a freshly roasted pound of Costa Rican Tarazzu to my door every month. When I want a cup, I grind some beans, put a scoop into a Cook's Essentials drip brewer and enjoy.

I'm not ashamed of it, either. Maybe a slight bit embarrassed, but not ashamed.

(We now return you to this thread, already in progress).

McDonald’s coffee is synonymous to “undrinkable crap” for me. Despite their newer offerings and marketing, I just can’t bring myself to drink that. At the same time, I can’t drink Tim Horton’s coffee either (without a ton of cream and sugar anyways) and that’s an offence where I could lose my Canadian citizenship!!! But I’m one of those snobs with an Italian espresso machine at home and that’s all I’ll drink for coffee.

It's a matter of taste. I myself can't stand any espresso except for Nespresso. Most of the times if I order espresso I get a cup of something thick as mud, sour and with too much aftertaste. The Nespresso capsules seem to be perfectly balanced, I can drink them and enjoy the experience.

Anyway maybe it's because I grew up in a coffee producing country, our stuff is some of the best in the world and Brazilians drink liters of filtered coffee a day, so I'll take a big cup of black filtered coffee over any espresso, anytime. That's why I like McDonald's and Starbucks.
