NGD! G&L Tribute Series ASAT Junior II

Yes, you saw me post a photo of one recently, and I found myself very drawn to it. The specs spoke to me, as did the price.

Two Paul Gagnon designed P90 pups, specially matched, a Brazilian Cherry fingerboard over a hard rock maple neck, a medium "C" profile neck with 12" radius and 1-5/8" nut, all in a transparent red mahogany body and a black, contrasting headstock with G&L's trademark "fishhook" design, and I've got another red guitar in my stable. The first in a Telecaster body!

I haven't yet plugged it in, as I'm letting it acclimate, but I couldn't resist playing a few riffs on it out of the box, and all I can say is, "Me likey!"

Okay, I let it 'acclimate' overnight, and today after I finished work (I've been teaching an online class all week), I plugged it in and...

    Woweee!

So, what I like about it (other than the sound, of course) are the controls. It's funny how just arranging the volume, tone and pickup controls a little can make such a difference. Flipping between pickups (3-way switch) is easily accomplished, and most definitely turns the guitar from purring to growling with just a flick. It's most definitely a Tele when you dial up the twang. But the P-90s give it a sound that melts butter (no, I didn't say it plays like butter, I said it melts butter!). The Brazilian Cherry board is... unusual. My first impression is that it needs to be played and "smoothed in" a touch.

    I think I'll do that!

The imported G&Ls that I've played have been very solidly built, musical sounding, fun to play and fairly priced. I'd like to try a Doheny.
