If You Could Have Been a Player on Any Album from Anyone or Anytime...

If you could have played on any album by anyone, which ones would it be?

Obviously any Beatles or solo Beatle album

    Otherwise
Bass on Derek and the Dominos Layla
Bass on Elton's Blue Moves album (I'd never dare to play on an album when Dee Murray was in the band)
    Guitar on Dylan's Highway 51
Guitar on Traveling Wilburys' first album.

So many more, many quite obscure.

Do I have to be as good as the other band members? If not, then I've imagined myself being onstage with Quicksilver Messenger Service performing their "Who Do You Love" suite. I'd also love be playing with Randy California in any Spirit incarnation.

    Tough call.

I could point out several albums, I mean studio stuff.

But if I had to choose being a player in any musical endeavor, so to speak, I'd have been the rhythm guitarist for the Grateful Dead on their '74 tour. Playing rhythm would allow me to enjoy Jerry's live playing hwile being a member of the Dead myself with a guitar.

tough call and my choices are quite varied. I was thinking of being there for "Sticky Fingers" by the Rolling Stones but Sergio had a really good one as well.

Although I was listening to Hendrix the other day and wondered what day to day was like in the studio with him. It seems as though he was constantly in the studio. The wealth of recordings, much of it released post-humous, says he must have lived in a studio when he wasn't performing. In the five years or so since before the debut of "Are You Experienced?" to his untimely death in 1970 he must have recorded hundreds of hours of material. Sure, most of it was probably scratch tracks but it would have been cool to see how classic cuts evolved until they were finally mixed and mastered.

Backup percussionist on Exile on Main St.

Just to have lived in that house for a few months with those characters...

Ooh, yes, that would be the Stones album for me too. I'd gladly play with Keith, even on a bad Mick Jagger solo work (if Keith stooped to that).
