You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?

sorry if these things are a bit mindless. Just throwing it out there.

My number one is my Ric, but the Precision runs a close second.

However, if I were going to buy another bass, it'd either be a Gibson EB-3 or a some kind of Hofner semi-hollow body with f-holes. I'd play any good semi-hollow if manufactures would offer a left. The only decent brand doing that is Hofner.

Interestingly enough, I thought it would be the other way, but my Ibanez MiKro GSRM30 is my number one bass, and my Epiphone Jack Casady 20th Anniversary Signature model is my number two.

My number one is a MIJ modded/active PJ - P body, J neck, PJ pickups. Covers a lot of ground for me and feels sweet as sunshine.

I've had a lot of number twos - Bass VI, EB/MM, straight P bass, straight Jazz bass, Fender Starcaster.

Always come back to my number one.

That looks so great, dirtdog. Is that a 3-way switch for the pups?

My #1 is my early 80’s Precision. Black, maple/maple. Had pickup and bridge covers new.

EMG’s in ‘92 or ‘93? Lots of gigs. A big, badass sounding mofo. Big, loud and unapologetic.

#2, and mostly played these days is a tele/P mashup I built a couple of years ago.

Mahogany body, maple neck with rosewood. EMG’s. Big and punchy.

Sorry - just seeing this now Willie.

That mini switch is for active/passive.

I've got concentric volume pots up front and concentric tone pots in the middle. The lower is the passive tone control (cut), the top is active (cut/boost).

Funny looking at the picture and holding the bass in my hands now - I'm missing a couple of parts (a cover for the concentric tone pot and a screw right near that pot). Not sure what happened there!

B&G will make you one for the same price as a righty.
They sound great, play fantastic and weigh nothing.
    It's my number one.

Number two would be an Elrick.

I’ll hand delver the adoption papers this time to avoid further disappointment!

CG, I saw those basses and pretended for a second that they were left handed.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?

My number one 5 string is the deluxe Lakland I’ve been playing since purchasing it in 1999. The second string 5er would be the Stingray 5 that I played from ‘88 up until the purchase of the Lakland.

For four string basses my number one is a ‘63 Fender Jazz that I purchased for $150 back around 1976 or so. It was refinished and I installed a Mighty-mite neck on it so it’s not original as far as those changes but all wiring, hardware and body are. The number 2 four banger is an original ‘65 Fender Precision I purchased new in ‘65.

I don’t have individual pictures of them but they’re all in this photo of the stuff in my practice room.

If you’re coming this way, I’ll cut some lefty nuts so at least the strings will be right ways up!
