Don, my Trad was one of the first off the floor, and it’s a heavy bugger. I don’t think it’s weight relieved either, according to what info I could find. If there are cheese holes, they’re full of heavy air. I don’t gig anymore, so weight isn’t an issue. It is a fantastic guitar, perfect for my idea of an ideal Les Paul. I love the Classic 57 pickups in it.

Yeah it's what they called a "faded cherryburst". The top is one of the nicest I've seen, a prototypical '59 specimen.

A '78 LP Standard and a real heavyweight at close to twelve pounds. I had it re-fretted in 1999 just prior to returning to professional live performances.

Dang PM, that's some luscious lumber you have there! is the "solid guitar" a 62 style? I see a vibrola and non-batwing guard so that's my guess but I don't know them as good as I should.

I know I'd be really happy with a Historic LP (an R4 or an R9), but I'm not primarily a Les Paul player and struggle with the idea of paying too much for one.
Just keep your eye out for a bargain, Don. That's how I do it.

I have 2: a 79 Tobacco Burst that weighs under 9.5 lbs I bought new in 79. It’s been a major workhorse.
also have a gorgeous looking and sound R9 in faded ice tea burst I picked up the middle of last year. It has a neck to die for.

Funny side story, soon after this, I went to see a plane (B-17). Didn’t do a flight but a did pre-flight crew for it. When I got home, my wife asked me if I bought a plane. With a puzzled look on my face, she responded, “I sent you out to get stuff for dinner, you said you were also going to look at a guitar. You came back with a guitar and dinner. She then said, Jack (not my name), did you also bring home magic beans?”

This was a score - another adventure in the hit series, Shopping for guitars with TeleBob;! I really wanted a double cut and wanted to check out Eastwood double cut knockoffs. There was a shop in Torrington so I met him there, but that store hadn't opened yet. Bob knew of another music store in the area so we popped in there to see what they had. He had just taken in a trade the night before of a Faded Cherry Les Paul Special DC. We looked it over - it was well loved, for sure, but it had lots of Mojo, but I did want to check out the Eastwood before deciding.
We went back to the first store and the proprietor was an effet snob, who definitely rubbed Bob the wrong way (as we all know, Bob can't stand the smell of Bull$h1t). What took place next was epic, because the two of them were both trying to one-up the other and the other guy's magazine wasn't carrying a full load. It was like watching a rank-out contest in Junior High, only older. Bob wiped the floor with him and we decided, even if the Eastwood had been a better guitar we would not have bought it from him, and frankly, ther was no comparison. That Gibson screamed Buy Me;! I ended up getting it for $500 cash and had to put a new set of tuners on it, as well as get a case, buit it is a great guitar - it only weighs 7 pounds but is not neck-heavy. It is the only guitar I ever bought used, and it is a fun guitar.

I had to sell mine, it was in the Jalepeno burst but it was a nose-diving son-of-a-gun. OK for the couch or recording but unplayable live. Practically tripped over the headstock if you let go of the neck. Maybe mine was particularly bad, but imagine an SG with a chambered body, lol.

My '62 LP, like all SG-inspired instruments, is somewhat nose-heavy. But I never used it for more than four or five songs, usually in sequence at the start of a set, then I switched to a guitar with more substance -- i.e. a Strat or a traditional LP

You should try one of the solid 335's, they're fun guitars and a bargain. Plus, when you hit the stage with it all the guitar nerds either go a: "What is that thing?" or b: into a total nerd-out meltdown. One of the coolest double cuts Gibson ever made IMHO.
