    NGD (yesterday): Guild Blues 90!

Maybe this should be in the "Other Fender Guitars" sub forum!

I haven't been happy with my Les Paul and have been thinking about replacing it with one that has P90s.

Then this Guild Blues 90 showed up at the local Guitar Center.

It's awesome! Chambered mahogany body, figured maple top, 8 pounds, 24-3/4" scale length, hot (maybe too hot?) P90s, big neck (1" at the 11th fret) and jumbo frets!

It needs a new switch (broken off threaded section) and knobs (broken bridge p/u volume knob), but its overall really clean- no real scratches or fret wear.

very nice. P-90s is one flavor I've never personally owned ... yet. I do want something like an LP or SG Jr but I always forget about Guild. I worked with a guy who had one of the Guild dual humbucker single cuts and it was a super nice guitar.

    Very good score.

Btw I am interested in p90s too, and would like to know: do they hum like normal single coils? More? Less?

I think P90s hum a little more than Strat and Tele single coils, maybe because they're generally hotter (these are very hot). Hum doesn't bother me at all, except that these pickups are RWRP to each other and hum cancelling when combined. I'd rather they not be RWRP and hummed all the time rather than have the hum depend on switch position. It doesn't really matter to me, though.

I've had a few guitars with P90s- a Les Paul Junior, PRS SE Soapbar II, '64 Epiphone Olympic and still have my '59 ES-225TD. I really like them- more than humbuckers.

I found someone with an old Guild knob that will match the rest on this guitar! It's on its way!

These hot P90s (Duncan Custom P90 in the bridge and Hot P90 in the neck) really crunch up the Dr. Z Cure! They aren't muddy and clean up nice, too. I moved the leg of the tone capacitors for Gibson '50s style wiring so it stays a little cleared when the guitar's volume is turned down (I do this to all of my guitars).

I have two Lesters with P-90s a Special double cut and a goldtop Traditional Pro (a "special run" for Guitar Center). I love that guitar played through my Marshall AVT 100 (the ONLY guitar that I like playing through that amp). I also had the builder put a set of Kinman noiseless P-90s in my custom-built Stol Guitar - he carved pickup covers out of the same block of Rosewood that he used to make the knobs, binding and neck. They sound really good, too!

Nice "get" on the Guild - I love me some Guild!

What I really want is an R4 though I can't justify the price. This makes 2 current P90 guitars for me- the Guild and the '59 ES-225TD. There's nothing quite like them! I call them the "just right" pickup!

I like that goldtop. Actually one of those would be perfect to get P-90s into my gear collection

This is like a Holy Grail guitar.

Recently, Jared James Nichols bought (or was given, I'm not sure) a '53 wine red Les Paul with the original P-90s. He actually thanked the Les paul Forum, maybe Charlie or Mike have something to do with it... He's playing it live all the time and loving it. By the way he gets a KILLER tone out of it.

Nothing beats the recipe of mahogany, maple and P90s (except maybe a great Telecaster)!

Isn’t telenator the one formerly addressed as telebob?

By the way... The only reason why my R4 GT isn't getting much play time these days, is because of this one...

recently ( and of course I can't find it again now) I saw a video of The Hollies, that appeared to be a live film documentary of them in the studio and showed somebody (Tony Hicks?) playing one of these Customs and the neck pickup was getting this most amazing tele-on-steroids tone.
