    Carpal tunnel syndrome

Well, just came back from the doctor and after x-rays and ultrasonography of the wrists and hands, that's my diagnosis. I though it were a common tendonitis, but it's more related to nerve tunnel than to tendons.

    And it sucks.

I hope the meds don't mess up my stomach too much.

And damn, I got two upcoming gigs which are really important.

Put some thought into the positioning of your guitar to accommodate your wrist. Don't be afraid to raise it up to an uncool level if required.

Sérgio, as one who works on computers night and day (or seemingly, anyway), carpal tunnel syndrome is always a risk. There are exercises one can do to mitigate the risk, and the affects. Here are three (demonstrated):

Good luck. As that great philosopher Linus Van Pelt once said, "Pain hurts!"

    Re: Carpal tunnel syndrome

I had CTS about 10 years ago, and a surgeon repaired it. It took a long time for me to heal--never, btw, get both hands done at once. You won't be able to dress or anything.

I still have a lot of pain in my fretting hand, the hand and wrist that had surgery, especially when I play bar chords. It's arthritis, so I just have to live with it.

    Re: Carpal tunnel syndrome

Luckily I'm still in the initial stage of the disease, so rest, ice and anti-inflamatories are enough.

As for arthritis, it sucks, and I used to be terrified about it, until talking to my old man (he's a doctor), and referring the fear of having to quit playing some day, he said "have you ever seen Keith Richards' hands? Go play your guitar".
