    Houston, We've Got a Sunday

I went to bed early last night, as yesterday was a pretty exhausting day. I ran my second 5K race since returning to running (and was quite happy with my performance), then I worked on my feet eight hours at the running store before landing home and into my couch.

Today is a "recovery" day. There's a single service at church this morning, where we'll discuss the upcoming year, then I'm just going to meander through the day, playing guitar, working on my computer project, and thinking about what I'm going to make for dinner.

In two weeks, I'll be vacationing in Austria. No guitar for a week; I'll be playing my camera rigorously instead! More to come...

    Have a great Sunday, everyone!

My VVA chapter brought the Wall That Heals to town for the weekend and it has been very rewarding. I got to touch base with comrades that I lost in Vietnam and got to see my brother honored in the In Memory section for those who have passed as a result of their involvement in the war. I think it also had quite an impact on the young people who are out of touch with those events from 50 years ago.

Today it's off to breakfast and coffee followed by a day of relaxing. I hope all have a great day.

at least you aren't going to Straya, that's nearly a full day in a metal tube breathing other people's air.

i borked my left knee this week, it is an accumulation of heavy lifting, strenuous exertion, an awkward tumble, a spastic treadmill and a walk in the mall (faster than my usual stride) and I've been icing it the last 2 days and elevating with pillow the last 2 nights. It figures that my favorite bands was playing last night and I wasn't able to dance except in my chair. I'll be icing it again today before I go to a friend's house to watch football. Hopefully another day or two of ice therapy will help.

I have an appointment this week with my GP. I'm up 20 pounds from where I was 6 months ago when I was being cleared for my most recent eye procedure. I'm sure I'm going to be hearing about that.

Apart from that, just more stuff to sort through and determine next destination.

That's interesting stuff, Laker. Glad you were able to have that.

This morning is pleasant, but it's Tennessee, so the heat and humidity will triumph soon.

I've had guests all weekend and had a buddy coming over to jam this morning, but Dad rock indeed, I'm exhausted. We're going to put it off so that I can do all of my Sunday chores.

I do hope to have some time with the acoustic today.

Hope everyone has a great day.

@Laker - as an Afghanistan vet, I get where you’re coming from. And as it happens I’m reading a book about the battles in Hue during the Tet Offensive. Such a different type of narrative compared to the ubiquitous jungle warfare. Quite a devastating series of events for both sides.

In in other news, we sold our lake house/cottage this past week. Made a nice tidy profit and are now completely mortgage free...eight or so years before retirement! Pretty happy about that. We had ten great summers up there but on to different things!

Re: Houston, We've Got a Sunday

Hey gang! Spent the weekend up at Lake George - just decided last minute that a weekend away from the wife would do me a lot of good. Got a tire patched on Friday morning and then left for the lake. Played guitar - got an idea for a new song that could be pretty good, fished off the dock for a while (didn't catch anything but who cares?) and had a great piece of Prime Rib last night. Slept late and drove a lot - loved it. Went to Fort Ticonderoga - hadn't been there in 50 years or more. They had a reenactment of one of the battles fought there and it was pretty cool. I didn't even know they were doing it, but I got there 10 minutes before it started. They did a great job of making the visitors really see it. They sort-of did a running battle on the perimeter with the audience in the middle so you could see all the action - along with great narration.

Last night the couple next door really started going at it around 2:30 in the morning. The walls were shaking and she was making a bunch of noise. I probably could have slept through it but somebody was spanking somebody and it got loud. I ended up putting in some earbuds and listening to Berlioz's Harold in Italy until I fell asleep. I decided that the next time I travel I'm going to pack a small "First Place" trophy and if it happens again I'm going to leave it by the offending room's door.

Then my wife called me - her daughter who is even more messed up than she is called her. out of the blue. She hasn't spoken to her in 8 years. Seems like the heroin and booze finally are doing her in - she had open-heart survey (she's in her 30's) and the pacemaker they implanted isn't working. They spoke for over 2 hours which is good, but I don't trust the little $h!t. It's looking like this week is going to get interesting.
