    The modern guitar player thead

An interesting discussion I had the other day about the cats who are out there getting the job done with strats and other guitars led me to post this one.

I've been listening to a bunch of GREAT 6-string pickers who aren't exactly worried about proving anything or recreating anything, they're just playing the hell out of their guitars.

This video is a good start... Tyler Bryant and his crew.

I'll be sharing new music here as I'm coming across it.

Here's a guy I like a lot, Jared James Nichols, covering some Mountain. But he's got some great stuff of his own!

Since we get so many sad news about some of our most beloved and admired players passing away, I decided not to post such news in here anymore.

Instead, I'll keep sharing more music, more of what I'm listening to and of what I'm doing. It's good to praise the ones that came before, but why not dig the ones who are out there doing it?

So, continuing this thread, this young gentleman is a fellow countryman of mine, a Los Angeles based Brazilian who plays the blues with the greats today:

John Mayer playing the hell out of a strat is always very cool. One of the most underrated strat masters today…

Heresy or not, I thing he plays that song better than SRV

Ok, last one for today. Dan Auerbach, from The Black Keys.

There are so many good musicians out there today...

Sergio, this guy, Terry James, is someone I played a blues jam with around ten years ago. I wish I could find a better video of his playing. We’d finish a tune and someone would say “play a samba”. Terry would think for a second and just pop into a great tune that fit the request. I only played that one night with him but his skills and sound stay in my memory.

I wish you could have experienced that night I worked with him. Good friends that are guitar players came and watched Terry play and they’d walk away shaking their heads trying to figure out how he was playing stuff. Terry James is the real deal. He pulls sounds out of a Fender guitar that Leo didn’t know it was capable of producing.

This fellow is more of an acoustic player, but I really like his style. Ryan Bingham.

I sincerely hope this thread isn't boring or anything, there aren't many replies or contributions, but I really think it's cool to share the music of the guys who are out there wrinting and releasing guitar music nowadays. We are losing more and more of our old inspirers everyday but there are just so many great musicians keeping our beloved styles alive...

It's generational change, Sérgio. Old guys like me tend to look to the players we grew up with. Younger guys like you are exploring and looking still for inspiration. That's not to say we can't enjoy exposure to newer talent (yay!), but I think it's hard to either let go, or grab new.

New old guy here, I appreciate this post, he is diffidently wearing out that Strat.

Not exactly something of the "guitar hero" kind, but I LOVE what Kevin Parker does with a Strat:
