    Strat in the Attic

I got a book for Christmas entitled "The Strat in the Attic." Written by Deke Dickerson (who is also a pretty good player), it is full of tales about collecting old instruments. He spins a good yarn and I couldn't put the book down, finishing before Boxing Day was over (for you Americans, Boxing Day is Dec. 26).

It is not just about fabulous and expensive guitars, although there is a lot of that, but mostly it is about "the hunt." He says, and I agree, that just buying an expensive and rare guitar from a dealer is not as fulfilling or exciting as tracking one down.

He writes with great excitement about his pet lust, Bigsby guitars, as well as Mos-Rites, and other odd guitars (including double-necks) of the Southwest. I knew almost nothing about these instruments and every page revealed something new.

He has a great section on the elusive Gibson Moderne - a must-read.

    Has anyone else read this?

I did a search for it on my county library site, with no results. I also searched for Deke Dickerson, and got a hit from a book he's interviewed in. But no go on Strat in the Attic. Sounds like a fun read.

I assume this is like a guitar version of The Cobra in the Barn. I'd like that!

Sérgio has better sources than I do. I went into a Barnes & Noble today, and after having no success finding it there, asked one of the staff to look it up. Not only do they not have it in ANY store, but their online service is out of them, also.

I’d be doomed without my Kobo reader, as such books would be too difficult to find here, outside the U.S.

It’s like a Kindle, just made by another company.

With it I can buy books legally and download them instantly.

That’s how I read lots of the books you guys mention here

I know! I checked Barnes & Noble because my daughter works there and gets a discount. No luck. The didn't have Cobra in the Barn either.

I've had that book on my Amazon list for a few years. I think I saw it first mentioned in Vintage Guitar magazine a ways back.
That sort of thing is fascinating to me - and lets face it, don't we all have that fantasy that we stroll up to a random yard sale an see a 50's Strat, Tele, Les Paul etc sitting there with a $20 price tag on it?

Just seeing this thread as I’ve been away a while. I got that book and it’s follow up as a gift in 2016. Great books and a great read.

Books have kept me going in many difficult times of my life, my friend. They’re great companions.
