    Cheap and Toneful

I played a gig using my budget rig.
The budget rig consists of a $100 Fender 1-12 cab (from the "Stage" amp series days) and what I consider
the steal of a lifetime... a Peavey VK 100 head. That 100 watt head cost me $150. Great cleans, decent dirt, and
bulletproof - and it sounds good at relatively low volumes. If only my $30. Washburn yard sale guitar had been ready... I have a pedal board with all used pedals (old TS-9. DD-3, Vox 846, and a TU-2)
totalling about $100. I know it isn't sexy to gearheads, but it was just as much fun to play as my supposedly better stuff.
I thought it was going to rain and we might have had to play outside.
A good, screaming Strat just might be the greatest guitar sound of all..... -Slash

Sometimes it's fun to prove that you don't need high end equipment to make great music.

    Re: Cheap and Toneful

A couple of months ago, I had to drive to Tucson, to put my grand daughter on a plane. I had been wanting to visit "Phantomman" so I told him I would swing by on the way home. I took a little 5E3 that I had built wanting his opinion. (The country players here love it.) Roger said he would use his hottest Strat, plugged it in, and gave the volume a spin. I heard the sweetest overdrive from the amp I have ever heard, (he still plays really well!)
Just a Strat, and an amp!

I don't wish to hijack this post but I miss Roger's input and friendship.
I have decided to be happy because it's good for my health.
