    Vintage Tele binding??

Please help me out with this, friends:

I often see pictures of vintage (I mean late 50s and early 60s) sunburst telecasters with binding on the bodies... Like this:

But Fender did make them unbound back then, I mean, like this American Vintage one:

What was the "standard" back then?

I don't usually like extra trim or fancy stuff on my Fender guitars, but I like Customs.

i generally don't like binding on a tele as it was my experience the edge of the binding was very sharp and hard. I tend to stay away from them but that's me.
