    Ford ceases to make sedans

Sad news to me. I really like their cars.

I’ll always drive a Ford because my father worked for 30 years at Ford Glass in Nashville, and I’ve just always liked Fords. I hated it when they eliminated Mercury. I don’t think they’ll stop making sedans for long, but we’ll see. Now I drive a Ford Escape, a 2012 and I believe the last year those were still big sized. It’s not a Caddie but it’s been a dependable vehicle. I’m going to keep driving it until it dies.

    I feel likewise, Willie.

I drive a 2012 Ford myself, a black sedan, and I really love this car. It is amazing how many magical moments I lived driving it. Met wonderful women, took my guitars and gear for countless rehearsals and some great gigs, escaped an attempted armed robbery (I was lucky, the bastards couldn't catch me), cried many tears of pain and joy.

I just can't let it go. It's like a good friend.

You really can't blame the company for not making what doesn't sell. In my area, the Ford dealer doesn't have any sedan types on the lot. If not trucks/expeditions, there are quite a few little SUV/crossover vehicles. Even the police loved the crown victorias, are driving trucks, or smaller SUV types.
I still drive my '93 F150, although I drive what I can pick up fairly cheap!

ford could sell nothing but mustangs and f-150s and SUVs and they would do just fine

The husband of one of the women who helps take care of my mom has a Fusion that he is still making payments on and it's in the shop more than it is on the road. He driving a rental '18 Malibu and he says to her tonight "I want a new car."

I have a SHO for my daily driver.

I don't blame Ford. People who buy american cars want power, luxury and features out the wazzoo.

When you sell economy sedans you need to compete with Toyota, Kia, Honda, etc., all in the price-point sh!tbox arena where you're only as profitable as your dumbest competitor. Since those cars have become so brand-diluted that you can't tell one from the other anyway, it's obvious those buyers are not "car people" and only looking for cheap. What incentive is there to even play in that arena? None.

So FoMoCo has a very (VERY!) profitable truck line, and they still want to sell sedans, but tailored to the typical american sedan buyer who wants a high-end, big car - enter Lincoln. Perfect marketing.

As long a Ford keeps the Mustang, all is good.

    BTW,

My SHO has 97,000 miles on it on NY roads which are famously rough, is driven relentlessly often cruising at over 90 mph, does track days, and has required (drum roll please) ZERO repairs. No rattles or squeaks. Even pulls a band trailer! That's a twin-turbo car with every toy and it even parks itself. I'm eyeing a new Continental but honestly, I can't justify it because there's nothing wrong with the SHO.

My wife is on her third Edge and had never had to have anything done but routine maintenance on them.

My first car was a 1970 Mercury Cougar. God I loved that car!!!! Along the way I've also owned a Ford Ranger, Escort, Bronco (another favorite) a couple other Mustangs ('96 and '99) and a couple F-250's for my plumbing business. Ford is definitely my favorite brand (except maybe Porsche - but I'll never own one of those...)

My brother's first car was a '67 Cougar with a 289. That was a fun car! I've never owned a Ford! A friend has a 1998 Mustang GT that he bought new and has put 406,000 miles on! It's still beautiful and rust free! I don't know how he does it.

Re: Ford ceases to make sedans

I owned an F-150 with a Cleveland 351 and a 3 on the tree, for about 45 minutes. Got it from a friend for 125 dollars. Went to test drive it and the first time I stepped on the gas, I saw the truck bed rise up past the rear window. The frame was so rusted out that it twisted about 60-75 degrees out of flat. I called my friend right away and said "I don't want this, can I have my money back?" We called it the flex bed 150

"...ceases to make sedans....in North America".

Go check out Ford UK - one pickup, one SUV type thing, bunch of vans....and many sedan models. Also check out Ford Asia, Ford South America, Ford Africa....
