    NGD E Series MIJ Standard!!

    Hey guys!

    I just scored a Fender E series..I LOVE it..very impressed!
My neck is a lil flamey too... slightly slender up at the nut..but feels great.

    Lake Placid Blue!!

But ONLY in pics! In real life it has a greenish glow, so looks more Ocean Turquoise.

Was thinking of doing a full on '65 style makeover..with '65 AVRI guard, pickups and accessories...but I really love it as is! Even stock pickups..ceramic yes..but sound very rockin'.

So it looks like conventional wisdom says that these were made '84-'87, and were the Start that was made while the tranistion from CBS to FMIC was made..lucky me, mine doesn't have a penciled in neck date..Several sources also cite that the E serials are completely random, so E8 isn't always 1988..(wouldn't care if it were, would just like to know definitively!)

And only ST-362V in neck pocket..though it looks like numbers in there too..

    Neck markings..is the 6 1986?

A CRL 5 way and CTS250K pots were added before me, but I did un-do the Dan Armstrong mod..I like 'em traditional. Also removed a treble bleed, and installed a NOS .05 orange dime cap.

Still MIGHT get a '65 guard and Pure Vintage '65 set to see..but honestly, digging the stock pickups..lots of rock fury in them!! Maybe being plumbed through CTS pots and a good switch helps?

I don't see 'em. Maybe it's something on my end... not sure.

Regardless... I've never played one but have always wanted to... serious mojo with these guitars imo!

how is it weight wise? I had a late '80s MIJ Tele that helped convert me to 3 barrel goodness. It was a sweet guitar but man, it weighed almost 10 pounds. It also was the first maple neck guitar since my new '74 strat that I could actually play and enjoy. I still prefer rosewood but can play maple now that the horrid sloppy glop days are behind us.

    Kris,

If you're using photobucket, your pics will no longer show because they've ended free 3rd party hosting--unless you pay.

I really would love to see the pics. You might try google or flickr.

    Kris, lovely guitar.

You can imbed google photos here:

    1. Go to google pics

    2. Click on the photo

    3. When it comes up, right click on it, and select "open in new tab"

    4. Copy the url address

    5. In our editor, click on the image sign

    6. Erase the http: thingy, and past the google-given url

Should work. A lot of steps, I know, but it's a solution.

Nice! I agree..thin, without being too thin..feels great!

Does yours have the back roller type string guides on it, or the butterfly style?

Since buying my E series MIJStrat ('72ri) new in 1987 or so, 5 Les Pauls, and probably 5 other Strats have come and gone. I have swapped out the pickguard for a white pearloid, pots and switch are from a '90's American Deluxe, and pickup are Duncans. I own 2 really nice American Standard Strats but my MIJ is still #1. I wish I had kept it stock, but I like it as the way it is now.
    Nice SCORE!!!!

interesting, the neck is why I sold mine.

too flat for me with a bit too much shoulder. fwiw neither they nor most of the FCS strats Ive played are much like the vintage strats Ive tried.

I found that I don't care for most of the '80s and '90s fender neck profiles, just like it was said above. flat and big shoulders. While I liked my strat plus's tone with the gold lace sensors I prefer more C shaped or V shaped profiles. Even the Chinese necks are more comfortable to me. Lately I've been thinking that my next strat build will be loaded with Lace Sensor golds. Might be a while though. Put my MJT body up for sale to free funds to expedite finishing my garage workshop. If it doesn't sell before my next payment gets deposited I'll keep it.
