    Great Club Owners

Last night we played at a smaller than usual venue for a fun gig. Place is known for great food and they offered to feed us - so were in. We ended up with an over-capacity crowd and the place had a really profitable night. We're packing up and out of the blue the owner comes over and hands us an extra $200. I tried to tell her, "No, a deal's a deal and we already got what we agreed to" but she insisted and then told us we were the best band she'd ever had and wants us to play at all of her clubs including some of the bigger ones. I told she passed the audition. :)

Anyway, most of these forums are proliferated with tales of woe about club owners/managers and yet, most of the ones we deal with really appreciate a band that does a good job and are some of the nicest, kindest people I meet. I thought it would be nice to start a thread about nice club owners.

Back in the day, we put up with some really shitty club owners and managers, but I've had the pleasure of working with some good ones over the years.

And yet, the shitty ones make for good war stories.

Good stuff! It's really easy to focus on the negative stuff, especially when dealing with people. I've been lucky to work with some decent people, and some crappy ones, just like anyone else. For me, I can usually pick up on who's going to a pain to work with, and do my best to not get hostile with them. I try to pull back and not engage in whatever game they want to play, and stay as professional as possible. That seems to limit how bad the situation might become. But it's refreshing to hear about the good stuff!
