And I Thought I Was Done Buying Guitars

But how could I resist a deal such as this?

    Description:
Fender Classic Player Triple Telecaster Electric Guitar, 21 Frets, Thick C Neck, Maple Fingerboard, Passive Pickup, Gloss Polyester, Black

    https://slickdeals.net/f/9509188-fender-classic-player-triple-telecaster-electric-guitar-380-free-s-h

Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Todd Krause has designed an unusual take on the Telecaster for the Classic Player series. The high-performance Classic Player Triple Tele rocks three slanted Nocaster single-coil bridge pickups for truly distinctive modern tone and the classic look of a black finish and pickguard paired with a one-piece maple neck/fingerboard.

Other features include a thick "C"-shaped neck profile, 9.5" fingerboard radius and 21 vintage-style frets, five-way Stratocaster-style switching, vintage-style string-through-body bridge with three brass saddles, special Custom Shop neck plate engraving and more. Deluxe gig bag included.

According to one purchaser, the "thick C neck" feels more like a "medium-thick C."

Heck, for $379.99, which includes no taxes, free s&h and a gig bag, this thing might just be my first modding guitar. It will certainly be my first non-American instrument.

Adorama said it was 7-10 days. Yet today I already received the tracking number. It hasn't hit the UPS shipping lanes, yet. But it could be here before Christmas.

    Definitely will porn you out!

Dammit, Old Strummer, stop buying guitars! Nah, keep on; we love it!

Buddy of mine bought one lately. He's been playing it un-modded, but the pickups are lacking. Still, it's a great guitar for the price and for a bit more on a set of good pups, it ought to sing and scream for you.

I've never modified a guitar before, at least knowingly or on purpose (I had new tuners and pots put on my '57 ES-225, but that was because the plastic pieces had started to crumble).

I looked at replacing the pup on my Pignose, but that really is sort of an extravagant extreme on a really toss-about guitar.

So, what does one look for in a set of Tele pups? My 2016 Limited Edition Select Light Ash Telecaster is equipped with a pair of American Vintage 1958 pickups, and my 60th Anniversary Tele, "American Vintage" pups.

I've looked at Seymour Duncan, Lace Sensor and some others, but I'm notoriously ignorant on pickups (I had to study just to learn the difference between single-coil and humbucking). I know it's all about the desired sound, and all I can say is I lean toward crisp, clean tones rather than the crunched up, distorted sound.

The Fender pickups should sound just fine, but if you're looking for a more traditional Tele set up, I like the Lollar Vintage T set a lot.

Also wonderful is Lindy Fralin's "Stock Tele" set.

Pickup shopping is a lot easier now with MP3 demo files and the Internet.

Oh, no. Oh, no. The GAS is starting up again...

Argh. I thought I was done buying guitars, and then this crept up on me. And the first thought that crossed my mind was, "well, I have four Strats and only three Teles..."

Are you kidding me?? That fret-board and well... everything else about it! There are so many Tele's and clones that I can't stand for one reason or another but that one... That one right there... 100% stunning/ perfect. Congrats. She's an absolute beauty!

    No, not yet...

I'm traveling on business this week and next, and can't act on my impulses. Maybe they'll quiet down by the time I return home.

    Then again, maybe they won't.

They weigh between 6 lbs 6 oz and 7 lbs 3oz (on Sweetwater). The body is "roasted ash" and the neck and fretboard are roasted maple. The neck is a fat "U" 7.25 radius, the pickups are Fender American Vintage '52 Single-Coil Tele, 3-Position Pickup Selector, 1-Ply Black Anodized Pickguard, Chrome Hardware, tweed hardshell case.

Ha ha, so funny that we all want Old Strummer to buy it. I find myself hoping he'll get it. Old Strummer, this group does not have your wallet in our thoughts. We just want you to buy! buy! buy!

OK, so here's the deal (e.g., what I'm thinking/planning). I'm currently traveling on business, and the end result is that my employer is paying my living expenses (room, board, transportation). In other words, even though I'm using my credit cards, I'll get full reimbursement for my expenses.

Plus -- and this is the kicker -- this week is a customer training, which means every attendee is worth $$$ to my employer. And I get a cut of the action.

So... after I return and submit my expense reports, I expect to see three things:

    1. My regular paycheck
    2. An expense reimbursement, which should exceed $3,000
    3. An extra check (NOT a bonus) for the paying customer

I still have to pay my bills and credit cards, but I figure two weeks without having to buy groceries, gas, lunches, etc. and the extra "commission" check, I *may* just have enough to plunk down on a new guitar.

    Stay tuned, you pickpockets, you!

Speaking as a professional random guy online, I believe that OS is now required to purchase this one.

Re: And I Thought I Was Done Buying Guitars

I seem to get more curve balls thrown at me than the late Roy Halladay threw. Not that I'm not still looking at the Roasted Ash Tele, but I came across this today, and with the 15% Black Friday discount, it's almost impossible to pass up.

    https://reverb.com/item/7230922-fender-koa-telecaster-2004-tobacco-burst

But I'm not 100% convinced it's what the seller maintains. For starters, Fender's serial number database reports it MIK 1988-1996 (the seller makes no attempt to hide the country of origin or serial number, obviously). The 3-way switch has been replaced with a 4-way (to give it a “humbucker” sound) and the control plate has been reversed.

Still, for $636.65US, this is almost too good to be true. Yet, we know what that means...
